The Gospel in a Pluralistic Society

Jesus came preaching the gospel of the kingdom. Good News. Great News! News that is still needed today in this time of alarmingly bad news everywhere people turn! We have seen shifts in the authority of diverse world views to influence our culture. Each of these, whether postmodern, LGBTQ, alt right, Black Lives Matter, Muslim, new feminist - and many others - have their own platforms and news channels that “get the word out” about their views and positions and action points. Nationwide, 68% of Americans believe that society benefits from having a diversity of opinions and viewpoints (Barna research, 2015). In other words, pluralism is our reality and 2/3rds of Americans see that as a good thing! So, how does the gospel of the kingdom speak into this diverse culture in which we find ourselves? Convergence “Live” on Friday, March 24 will address a dozen topics on this subject of “the gospel in a pluralistic society”. The good news is still great news if it is shared. It is time to refresh and activate this reality.

Real Life Example: Fresno, California

Dr. Nzash walks the streets of the Tower District interacting with the hard bitten people on the street with hope and a word of blessing. One of the pastors in this district calls it a “city within a city” where the homeless congregate and a methadone clinic and Planned Parenthood clinic stand side by side with run down apartments and store front churches. From his home country of Congo, Dr. Nzash brings the knowledge, hope and experience that it is the gospel of the kingdom, the reality of Jesus that will bring life to the people of this district. Through his relationship with Pastor Ricardo, he has called the pastors who minister on the streets here to a monthly meeting together to pray and coordinate their gospel work together. In April, they will host a “tent” meeting in a park under a freeway overpass. The gospel is the light in the darkness in the Tower District of Fresno, CA.
