Community Meeting
Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) is excited to announce its plan to build a new elementary school that will open in August of 2027. This plan includes closing Fountain Rock and Hickory elementary schools in June of 2027. The new school is planned to be located in front of the Center for Education Services along Downsville Pike in Hagerstown.
Students, staff, families, and other stakeholders from the Fountain Rock and Hickory communities are invited to attend a public meeting to learn more about the process of closing both schools and the benefits of building a new, state-of-the-art learning facility to serve students into the future. WCPS staff will share these details and respond to questions from attendees. The meeting will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium at Springfield Middle School.
WCPS recognizes our schools are pillars of our community. As such, many people have meaningful connections and deep emotional ties to these schools. WCPS and the Washington County Board of Education value community involvement and stakeholder feedback in this process. Meeting guests will also have the opportunity to share their thoughts and input as WCPS begins to plan the school closures and the new school construction.
