Principal Chad Moeller's Desk
As you know we have focused this year on being respectful. You also know that I have challenged the students to have less discipline issues each quarter than any corresponding quarter in the past 10 years.
For example, the best 1st quarter we ever had was 201 issues. Our goal was to beat that number. This year we came in at 210 issues first quarter. While we missed our goal slightly, we still had a great quarter.
The results for second quarter are now in. We had a goal of getting less than 247.5 discipline issues, which the lowest number we ever recorded for a second quarter. We had a total of 186! Not only did the students make their goal, they accomplished the best quarter we have ever had. I am so proud of them!
Details about a school-wide reward will be announced later.

DRESS CODE UPDATE
Out of concern for the student's safety while walking on snow/ice, we have decided to make a small adjustment to the SLS uniform policy. Effective immediately, it is open for students to wear warm winter boots with their uniforms. We are requesting good judgment, as this change in policy only refers to warm winter boots and not dress boots/high boots. These boots need to be appropriate to wear during mass and students need to bring tennis shoes on days they have PE. This adjustment is being made on a trial basis and we will make adjustments as necessary. Warm winter boots are only allowed until spring break.

General Mills Box Tops Contest
It’s that time of year again, box top challenge! For each box top we collect, we receive $.10!
Box tops can be found on many General Mills products, such as apple juice, cereal boxes, etc. Keep an eye out for these products as you shop and then cut and send the labels to school with your child. Box tops alone bring in over $2500 to the school each year. Since 2004 St. Louis has earned $25,083! The contest held in October brought in $1420.40! Let’s try to beat that!
We are holding a contest for 3 weeks in Jan / Feb. The homeroom that submits the MOST box tops will receive an Ice Cream Party. Please place all box tops in a Ziploc bag and return it with the child’s name, grade, and homeroom teacher written on the outside or on a piece of paper in the bag. Box tops for the contest will be accepted between now and Friday February 12. Bonus and ebox tops also accepted.

7TH GRADE BOYS BASKETBALL
The St. Louis Cardinals 7th grade team played the South Ripley Raiders on Thursday night in the finals of the SEI Tournament. Both teams were looking to cap off their very successful season with a chance to cut down the nets. The Cardinals had a little more riding on the game as they were also looking to avenge an earlier season loss against the very talented South Ripley Raiders team.
The game started with the Cardinals controlling the tip, and for the most part, the rest of the game. The Cardinals, known to play good defense, turned in one of their best defensive performances of the year, as they shut down the Raiders in the 1st quarter not allowing them to score. They also came out shooting well as Andrew Oesterling and Wil Freeland both knocked in shots from 3 pt range to help put the St. Louis up 14-0 at the end of the quarter. The second quarter was played fairly even and the half ended by the score of 24-11. The Raiders came out in the third quarter and hit their first 5 out of 6 shots but the Cardinals were able to answer the call highlighted by a 3 pointer in the corner by Riley Schebler. The Cardinals outscored the Raiders by a point and the 3rd quarter ended 37-23. The fourth quarter came down to playing good defense and making free throws for the Cardinals, which they did, as they outscored the Raiders 10-6 and were 8 for 10 from the line. The game ended with the Cardinals winning by the score of 47 – 29.
The scoring for the Cardinals consisted of Wil Freeland with 7, Riley Schebler 7, Andrew Oesterling 17, Leyton Ratcliff 8, and Sam Voegele 8. Defensively the team was led by Schebler and Oesterling on the perimeter and Sam Voegele controlled the boards again as he pulled down a season high 14 rebounds.
The Cardinals finished the season 23-2. The championship win brings back the trophy to St. Louis for the first since 2005 when the SEI tournament started. Congratulations should be given to both South Ripley Raiders and St. Louis Cardinals for a great season.
7TH GRADE GIRLS BASKETBALL
The 7th grade St. Louis Lady Cardinals beat St. Mary's 28 to 4 on Monday January 25th. The team played excellent defense to secure this win.
