Updated Information Regarding School Closure
As a result of the executive order that Governor Abbott issued today regarding Texas schools, all Lago Vista ISD schools and offices will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.
Lago Vista ISD campuses will move into distance learning beginning on Monday, April 20th for the remainder of the school year. More information regarding distance learning can be found in this newsletter.
Thank you for being patient and supportive of our teachers during this closure as we made the shift into distance learning. We know that you have had to create new family schedules that involve balancing your own work schedule with your child(ren)'s schooling. Please let us know if you have any questions!
And the Great Adventure Begins Tomorrow, April 20th
Tomorrow we kick-off our distance learning for real. Online assignments are posted by your teachers tomorrow at 8:00am and these assignments are new learning. Each student is responsible for submitting the last assignment in each module to teacher for grading.
These learning activities are meant to be self-paced and should provide enough information for students to complete them independently. However...we are here to help! Teachers will have office hours and will be available to Google Meet and available through Google Classroom, Class DoJo or SEE SAW.
Please see recommended schedule for virtual learners:
Monday - Access all assignments through your teacher's Google Classroom or SEESaw, review expectations and directions, make notes about any questions you might have, begin working on your tougher subjects as those may take the most time.
Tuesday and Wednesday - Now that you have seen your online coursework attend office hours or schedule a Google Meet hangout with your teachers for any class that you find you need help on the directions or accessing the materials to complete the work on your own.
Thursday and Friday - Contact your teacher if you need additional help to begin with the independent assignment. We are hoping that you are ready to submit your assignment on or before April 27th.
Schedule for online work posting and due dates are as follows:
- April 20: Week 1 learning module content and assignments will be posted in digital classrooms.
- April 27: Week 2 learning module content and assignments will be posted in digital classrooms. Assignments from Week 1 are due.
- May 4: Week 3 learning module content and assignments will be posted in digital classrooms. Assignments from Week 2 are due.
- May 11: Week 4 learning module content and assignments will be posted in digital classrooms. Assignments from Week 3 are due.
- May 15: Final day for assignment submission. Assignments from Week 4 are due by May 18th.
- May 18-22: Campuses will finalize grades for the fourth 9 weeks.
Although assignments will continue to receive numeric grades, course grades for the 4th nine weeks will move to a Pass/Fail system. As such, grading for the 4th nine weeks will have three options:
I - INCOMPLETE (Will translate to a “0” if missing assignments are not submitted prior to May 15th).
P - PASS (100% in semester calculation, in accordance with weighted table)
F - FAIL (69% in semester calculation, in accordance with weighted table)
It's okay to NOT KNOW ...It's not okay to NOT TRY
