Upcoming Vote on PPEL & SAVE Extension

On November 2, 2021, the Iowa City Community School District will ask voters to consider the renewal of the Iowa Secure and Advanced Vision for Education Levy (SAVE) and the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL). The no new money renewal of these levies allows the District to complete the promise of FMP 1.0 and to embark on Facilities Master Plan (FMP) 2.0 with no tax increase. This extension of SAVE and PPEL also provides funding for District-wide lifecycle projects that would otherwise pull vital teaching and learning dollars from the District’s general fund. This progress would come with no increase to the current tax rate.

Our District will hold two community information sessions on the extension of PPEL and SAVE. Superintendent Matt Degner will share details about the November 2, 2021 vote and answer questions from participants. The information sessions will be held virtually on the following dates:

You can learn more about our District’s plan at We appreciate your engagement in this process and please vote on November 2, 2021. #ICCSDtogether

Meet Ms. Svoboda: Academic Support Teacher

Big picture

I am thrilled to be joining the Lincoln team this year as an Academic Support Teacher! My role is to support students who need help in the areas of reading and math. I spend my mornings at Lincoln and my afternoons at Penn also working as an Academic Support Teacher. Prior to coming to Lincoln, I taught 8th grade reading, 2nd Grade, 4th Grade, Title I Reading and Math, and 2nd and 3rd Grade Resource. I also worked at Grant Wood Area Education Agency as a Special Education Literacy Consultant. I have a significant other of 22 years (Colby), and a cat (Tink),a rescue, who I absolutely adore. I enjoy going out to eat, watching movies, a good Starbuck's coffee, and really just relaxing.

Enrollment Period for 2nd Trimester

This message was sent to all district families by Superintendent Degner on Wednesday, October 6.

Dear Families and Staff,

The Iowa City Community School District is offering an enrollment period for the second trimester of the 2021-22 school year. The second trimester begins November 18, 2021. ICCSD Online provides the opportunity for students in grades PK-12 to attend school virtually.

This enrollment period will be open from October 6-15, 2021. To enroll in the ICCSD Online program, please contact the building secretary at your student’s school. For current ICCSD Online students who wish to switch to in-person learning, please contact the ICCSD Online secretary, Katherine Njordson, at (319) 688-1370. Important note: Enrollment changes may result in teacher shifts at the elementary level depending on the number of students making an enrollment transition. This may impact students even in situations where they are not changing their enrollment status.

Our District is closely monitoring the potential release of the COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11. Currently, it is being reported that the vaccine could be available for this age group within the next four weeks. We anticipate the need to offer another enrollment period prior to winter break, with the new placement occurring on January 3, 2022. This allows students ages 5-11 the ability to become fully vaccinated, which is two weeks after they receive the second dose of the vaccine. Please note, this timeline is subject to change based on vaccine availability for this age group.

If you do not wish to enroll your child in the ICCSD Online program or you do not wish to switch your current ICCSD Online student to in-person learning, you do not need to take any further action.

ICCSD Online is fully accredited and serves students in grades PK-12 in a virtual learning environment. To learn more about the program, visit Specific questions about the program can be emailed to or you may call (319) 688-1000.

Meet Mrs. Nenninger: Lincoln's ELL Teacher

Big picture
Hello, my name is Susan Nenninger. I am the ELL teacher at Lincoln Elementary. This is my 14th year of teaching. I have taught 4th grade for ten years, 2nd grade for one year, and this is my 3rd year teaching ELL for Lincoln. Message on Masks and Vaccines

Message on Masks and Vaccines (9/15/21)

To help slow the spread of COVID-19, the Iowa City Community School District requires universal mask use for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to our schools, regardless of vaccination status. This is based on guidance from the CDC. In addition, the President’s Executive Order on domestic transportation requires students and staff to wear a face-covering while on a school bus or while utilizing other District-provided transportation.

In addition, our District strongly encourages eligible individuals to get the COVID-19 vaccine. For individuals 12 years of age and older who have not yet received the COVID-19 vaccine, this vaccine locator may be used to find a provider near you.
