PRINCIPAL MESSAGE
Look What's Happening
IT'S GONNA BE MAY! Apparently that's a Justin Timberlake meme as a spoof from an old song. If you're old, like me, you know what I'm talking about. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then, well, happy May!
As we begin the last month of school, so much is going on for the students. This week, we had author visits from Margaret Peterson Haddox and Ammie Elliott funded by the PTO. All students heard from one of the authors. They learned about the writing process and how an idea or experience can develop into a book or series.
We had new student orientation this past week. We invited new families into GRE as current students led them on a scavenger hunt around the building. Student representatives did a great job as ambassadors of GRE. They helped students and families to make connections as they join the GRE school community family.
Lastly, thank you to the PTO staff appreciation committee for a wonderful staff appreciation week. In addition, thank you to The Winchester Institute for donating massages for the staff. As you know, we love our jobs at GRE. We take such pride and joy in what we do and we appreciate the privilege and opportunity to positively impact the lives of students. Yes, the job is hard and stressful, but the reward is worth it. The PTO planned wonderful appreciation activities this week for staff appreciation week. They went above and beyond by planning a travel theme down to the finest details. The entire staff felt appreciated and supported. This gave the staff the energy to keep going during the busiest times of the year. Therefore, on behalf of the entire staff, thank you PTO and school community for supporting the hard work, dedication, care, and collaboration for the betterment of the students.
Have a great weekend,
Pete Kurty, Ed. D
Principal

Promotion Ceremony:
Location: GRE gymnasium
9:45 - 10:15 - All 5th grade classes
Clap-out:
10:15 (immediately following the promotion ceremony) - Families will form a tunnel in the commons and main hall. After students march through, families will exit the front of the building to meet their child for the bell ringing ceremony. 5th grade students will continue to make their way through the hallways of the school, ending in the front of the building by the bell.
Bell Ringing: Immediately after the clap-out
Location: Front of the GRE building (outdoors)
Following the clap-out, families will proceed to the front of the building. Students will be led by their teacher to the front of the building to ring the ceremonial 5th grade bell. The bell ringing will occur rain or shine, unless there is lightning. Be prepared to stand in the rain if you are attending.
Miscellaneous Information:
Student sign out: There will be student sign-out sheets, organized by 5th grade class, at the guest sign-in table. If you plan to take your child with you following the bell ringing ceremony, you are welcome to sign out your child prior to the promotion ceremony. If you do not sign them out prior to the ceremony, you can do so in the office afterward. If students are not being signed out, they will go home as they normally do at 12:25 dismissal. If you wish to sign out any other grade level students, you will need to do that in the office.
Parking: Parking is available in the parking lot on the East side of the building. Parking will also be available on the playground; however, space is limited.
