Unit 4
Practice the 4th grade standards for unit 4 literacy.
Summarizing
We are starting the unit off with something you've been doing forever! Summarizing! Yay!
Remember that summarizing includes the MOST IMPORTANT events or ideas of a text and doesn't include opinions or many details.
Students should be able to summarize a text using the central or main idea of the text.
First you need to know how to find the main idea to include it in your summary.
Listen to the song below to remember how to find the main idea.
The Main Idea Song
Now, practice!
Below are links to other websites to practice summarizing!
Theme
We have studied theme before but lets keep practicing!
Students should be able to demonstrate they have the ability to describe the theme or central idea of a text from details in the text.

Evidence and Reasoning
Throughout this school year we have been practicing using evidence and details from the text to support our reasoning in our answers.
Students should be able to explain how an author uses reasons and evidence to support their particular points in a text.
Point of View
Students should be able to demonstrate that they have the ability to compare and contrast the point of view from which different stories are narrated, including the difference in 1st and 3rd person narrations.
Students should also be able to compare and contrast a firsthand and secondhand account of the same event or topic, and describe the differences in focus and the information provided.
