My Smore Flyer
Greetings Elkins Pointe Family!
I am extremely proud of the significant academic growth our students showed last year, and I believe that in the 2018-2019 school year we can “Team Up” to create a stronger school-wide growth mindset. With the support of my staff and the PTSA, we look forward to providing an environment filled with high expectations, love, and PTSA field experiences. Together, we can raise “Smart, Happy, and Connected” students who master the ability to rise above challenges and take academics to an even higher level.
In keeping with our superior GADOE 5-Star Climate Rating, we are on track to continue a school where safety, respect, accountability, and excellence are highly evident! Our building looks spiffy thanks to fresh coat of paint provided by SPLOST. We are ready to roll out our new 3-year Strategic Plan which focuses on the whole-child’s pursuit of his or her chosen path. As an AVID school, we embed College and Career Readiness into our framework and culture, i.e. College Swag Fridays. Thus, creating a school where students’ growth mindset becomes key. Growth mindset simply means we nurture students’ abilities develop through dedication, hard work, and believing in themselves. We want our students to learn how to organize their school work, ask questions to discover career interests, and be prepared for high school. Being “Smart Happy and Connected” means improving students’ overall quality of life.
§ SMART: WINN (What I Need Now) class provides time for students to focus on enrichment, remediate, recharge in recess, take brain breaks, organize binder/agenda, and learn life skills. AVID trained and TAG endorsed teachers are populated throughout for benefit of every student. School Governance Council (SGC) supported their literacy initiative by purchasing new classroom book sets.
§ HAPPY: More information on Clubs resuming a traditional format of before and after school will be in Titan Talk and at “Get Connected Night.” Our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program encourages good behavior and individual responsibility through R.I.S.E UP rewards.
§ CONNECTED: The 2018-2019 “Team Up” fundraising campaign supports PTSA field experiences for every student, PTSA mini-grants for teachers, and volunteer opportunities and communication for parents, i.e. PTSA summer newsletter and calendar. Where Everybody Belongs, 8th grade WEB leaders will welcome 6th graders to “Camp Titan Up” and greet our newest Titans on the first day of school. Community Partners (business, charity, and faith-based) link school and community.
I would personally like to extend a special yearlong invitation to our families to join us at all school activities, events, and in the classroom. We want, need, and value your family’s involvement in your child’s education. PTSA will have sign-up sheets for all programs, as well as other areas that need your support. Please join PTSA and donate to the 2018-2019 “Team Up” fundraising campaign!
I am thrilled to welcome you to a new year of learning and growing. Thank you and I look forward to working with you to make this another great year!
Enjoy the rest of your summer,
Kindra Smith. Ed S.
