Message From Ms. Riddle
Greetings TLA Families!
I am so impressed with the way scholars have shown up for learning and made each day count this week. At TLA we have above average expectations for scholars and it amazes me how well they are able to meet the mark, even with winter break right around the corner. Winter Spirit Week starts on Monday and is going to be an absolute BLAST! It’s so fun to see how creative scholars and families can get when preparing for the theme of each day. Whether homemade or purchased, the scholars are always so proud to strut their stuff!
Elementary scholars have been working hard to showcase their musical skills at next week's Winter Sing. We hope to see all of our elementary families on Thursday at 5:00 - 5:45 pm. Scholars are asked to dress up their holiday best.

Learning and Fun, All in One
This week the TLA middle school traveled to the Welty Environmental Center with the science teacher, Mr. Miller, to learn about the interactions between deer and people. Scholars did three activities that taught them about chronic wasting disease, deer populations, and signals that deer have been in an area. Scholars looked for tracks, deer scat, as well as trails to identify their presence. Scholars also played a game that stimulated the rise and fall of deer populations from year to year based upon the resources available to them. In the final segment scholars studied the effect and areas of Wisconsin impacted by CWD (chronic wasting disease).

Culture Connections
As the holidays approach us please use this time to enjoy the holiday with your family. Here are some ideas you can try. Play a board game together as a family this week. Up your game by having some seasonal snacks! If you don’t have any games at home, try to make-your-own Pictionary or a classic game of Charades. Practice our virtue of CREATIVITY with your scholar.

Shoutout to 6th-10th scholars for doing a better job getting to class on time. We are seeing more scholars transitioning to class in a timely fashion. I also want to thank all families for your support and partnership throughout the school year. The school staff and families are focused on scholars living a happy, choice filled life.
Please remember that boots in any form (even booties) are not allowed indoors for scholars at TLA. The family handbook notes, "Boots, slippers, open-toe, open-side or backless shoes, and heels greater than 1.5” in height are not allowed." There is a helpful chart on pg. 41 as well. Families have a grace period between now and the return from winter break to replace booties/boot-like footwear.
Attendance Goal
TLA prides itself on achieving an aggressive attendance goal each school year. It is TLA’s goal that scholars will maintain an attendance rate of 95% or higher. Here are the weekly and year to date (YTD) %’s. The weekly % is attendance from Friday to Thursday.

Career Chat with Ms. Benisch
This month our career focus is Government. Scholars interested in government careers had the opportunity to attend a career panel to learn more about the career. Chief Sayles from the Beloit Police Department and Attorney Tom Kolpein from Axley Attorneys spoke to the scholars about their jobs. Scholars asked questions about a day in the life, salary, challenges, and preparation steps.
Athletic Updates with Mr. Clothier
Congratulations to our JV girls basketball team for improving their record to 2-0 with a decisive win over South Beloit High School! Keep up the great work!
The middle school boys basketball team also brought home a win with a victory over Our Lady Sacred Heart Academy (Rockford). They will be back in action with a rematch against OLSHA this week. Good luck boys!
The TLA wrestling team had some more success with a 3rd place finish from Fabio Tapia at the Byron Invitational. Fabio fought back from a ten point deficit in the last period to take home his medal. Nice job, Fabio!
