NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS
Avoid the Car Line - Register Your Student for Busing!
Several parents in the very long student drop off and pick up lines have asked if it is too late to register their child for busing. It is NOT too late! The cost for families who live within the fee area (2 miles or less from Turtle Lake) is $112.50 per student for the remainder of the school year. As always, there is no cost for district residents who live further than 2 miles from school. It's easy to register online and bus passes arrive in just a couple of days. To sign your student up to ride the bus, click here.

Turtle Lake Orchestra News
ATTENTION ALL 3RD AND 4TH GRADERS
Please remember to fill out the Music Interest Survey that was emailed home this week to let us know your music plans for next year at Turtle Lake. We would like all families to fill out the form, even if you don’t plan to enroll in orchestra, band, or choir. See below for more information on these opportunities. The form will be emailed once more on Monday, Feb. 22, so keep an eye out, and reach out to the music staff with any questions!
It’s time for you to sign up to join ORCHESTRA! Watch this video (click HERE) to learn more about orchestra and the string instruments you can play starting soon, and this video (click HERE) to see why students love being a part of the Mounds View Orchestra!
SUMMER ORCHESTRA - Most of our 3rd grade students sign up to start learning their instruments during the summer before 4th grade (current 4th graders, you can also sign up to start this summer, before 5th grade!) Summer Orchestra is a 4 week session during the month of July. Look for registration information coming soon. We learn all the basics of playing during Summer Orchestra, and you’ll be amazed how good you get on your new instrument! You can also start playing when school starts in the fall, when you’re a 4th or 5th grader.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Celebrate Black History Month - Join the Association for the Study of African American Life and History for their 2021 Black History Month Virtual Festival. Throughout the month of February, ASALH will host virtual programming in observance and celebration of the strengths, struggles, resistance—and the sheer perseverance of the Black family. The Festival will be a series of stellar educational events that demonstrate how Black people helped shape the American landscape and were shaped by it, posited through the lens of food, religion, social justice, education, economics, and music arts and their impact on the endurance of Black families. Join in the celebration here.
Bundle Up for Outdoor Recess - With the extreme cold and snow we experience during Minnesota winters, students are expected come to school every day with proper outdoor gear including coats, hats, mittens, snow pants and boots. Outdoor recess will take place each school day unless air temperatures at the time of recess reach zero degrees and/or windchills reach 10 degrees below zero, in which case recess will be held indoors. Being prepared for cold temperatures every day will keep students safe and make recess enjoyable for all. If you are having difficulty providing outdoor gear for your child, please reach out to Beth Carver at (651) 621-7713 or elizabeth.carver@moundsviewschools.org
Parent Pick Up Etiquette - Currently we have a high volume of vehicles dropping off and picking up students at Turtle Lake during arrival and dismissal. Your help is needed to ensure this process is safe and efficient.
- Please remain in your vehicle; pull as far forward as possible
- Have your child ready to exit. No quick chats with child or staff; a friendly wave says it all
- Proceed through the parking lot with caution as children are present
- Seat your child on the passenger side (right hand side of the vehicle) if possible
- Put school items in the front seat; hand items out the window if needed
- Bag up items and be ready to depart the vehicle
- Have masks on before you reach the drop off zone
- Unlock all doors so staff can assist you
- Be patient - it is a very busy time for everyone
Thank you for your continued patience through these challenging times.
Kindergarten Registration - If your family has a child that will be entering kindergarten in the fall of 2021 and you have not yet received registration information, please call the Snail Lake Kindergarten office at 651-621-8000.

Snaps @Home! - If your student did not yet get a school picture taken and would like one, you can create a LifeTouch portrait photo right from your phone.
