Sharks!

The ancient, gentle giants of the ocean

Fun Facts!

  • Their skeletons are made of cartilage

  • The smallest shark is the dwarf shark (4 inches)

  • Blue sharks are the fastest of all the sharks; they can reach speeds of 45 mph.

  • There are 350 known species of sharks

  • New born sharks are born with the ability to hunt

  • The bull shark is the only shark that can live in salt and fresh water

  • 90% of people survive shark attacks, which are usually induced by the human

  • About 100 million sharks are killed by humans every year

WHY KILL SOMETHING THATS MORE AFRAID OF YOU THAN YOU ARE OF IT?!

Each year, 100 million sharks are killed by humans. Long line fishing and the desire for their fins have created a large want for all species of sharks around the world. Each year, only 5-15 humans die from shark attacks; and most of the time, the attacks were induced by the human!

FOR EXAMPLE...

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?

IT"S EASY!

There are plenty of organizations and clubs out there that are all about saving the sharks. You can join one, or more of them, simply by added your email to their website and spreading the word. Groups like Project Aware and Sea Shepard are out there to spread the word and try to stop people from killing sharks. Some organizations like Defenders actually allow you to "adopt" a shark in an effort to hopefully keep an eye on them and keep them in the ocean.
