A MESSAGE FROM OUR TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Protecting Your Kids Online
CONNECT
Set some ground rules. Establish clear guidelines like what types of sites kids can visit, apps they can download, and when they can have access to electronics. Consider “blackout” periods that require disconnection.
Go beyond safeguards. Installing monitoring software doesn’t guarantee your child will be safe online. Time, attention, and active conversation are the best tools to protect them.
**It is important to note that student Chromebooks are only filtered when they are on the school network. At home, students must rely on safeguards set up by parents in order to monitor and ensure student safety.
ENGAGE
Talk about it! Your kids might not tell you everything but ask anyway. Regular conversations about safety can go a long way in increasing trust and communication.
Get involved. Challenge them to a duel. If you have kids who like to play online games, ask if you can play, too. When you respect their interests, they’re more likely to respect your rules.
Don’t pull the plug. Taking away internet access because they may have made mistakes online doesn’t solve the problem. Talk to them about protecting themselves and respecting others online.PTSA CORNER

TEACHER SPOTLIGHT: Our second teacher in the spotlight is Mrs. DeWalt. The following was sent by Team 72 teachers.
"Mandy DeWalt is an amazing team leader to our purple hall! She takes care of all the students as if they were her own. In addition, she checks on all of us teachers as if we were a true part of her family. Not only does she organize all of our classes when we are out sick and there is not a substitute present, but she also sends us reminders of upcoming events or deadlines. She leads our team meetings with undeniable support. Mrs. DaWalt creates and purchases t-shirts for us to wear on Fridays to boost our team unity. Also, she brings us treats to pep us up. We would all be lost without her guidance and help. Mrs. DaWalt shows us what it is like to be a work family. We love Mandy DaWalt!!!" Thank you, Mrs. DeWalt, for being so amazing!
Do you want to Spotlight a teacher? Please email us and tell us why you think they are going above and beyond as a teacher at our school. Every teacher nominated will have their morning duty or lunch duty for special area teachers taken care of for a day. The teachers truly appreciate knowing what they do matters and the break that comes with it. To nominate a teacher send an email to DFMIDDLEPTSA@gmail.com. Please add the teachers name, grade and why you are nominating them.
