RAIDER BAND INFO
A big THANKS to the Raider Band students & parents that hosted the District Solo & Ensemble Festival on February 15. We had a very successful event, despite the weather challenges. SHS had 11 entries that earned 8 Gold, and 3 Silver ratings. Five students advanced to the State festival.
On March 1, three SHS Band students performed at the Indiana State School Music Association Solo & Ensemble STATE Festival held at North Central High School in Indianapolis. Hannah Taylor, Flute solo, Hunter Brooks, Trumpet solo, and Katelyn Kendall, French horn solo, earned a GOLD Superior rating. Congratulations on great performances!
The band is rehearsing on music for our upcoming events. This includes preparation for our FLORIDA Trip over Spring Break! Our Marching Band will perform in front of thousands of spectators in an evening parade at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park. Our Concert Band will participate in a music workshop with a professional Disney musician. We look forward to a great Spring Break!

Mrs. Fowler and Mrs. Pulley have been meeting with students to help them select classes for the upcoming school year. Students are welcome to make changes to their course requests any time this semester. Contact Guidance with questions.

Academic Super Bowl
The Academic Super Bowl Team competed in the Invitational Competition on Tuesday, March 11th at Forest Park High School. Students competed in five subject areas based on their knowledge of “Westward Expansion: 1783-1900” in areas of Social Studies, English, Math, Science and Fine Arts. Congratulations to the Interdisciplinary Team for placing third in the Pocket Athletic Conference which consisted of team members Megan Diekhoff, Sidney Eckert, Brett Nordhoff, Emily Calderon and Mateo Nino. The Area Contest will be Tuesday, April 22nd in the school gym at North Knox Junior Senior High School and will begin at 4:50.
Southridge Choir
On February 1 seventy SHS choir students qualified for ISSMA STATE vocal/piano solo and ensemble contest. The state contest was hosted by Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis on Feb. 22. Congratulations to all vocal soloists, piano soloists and ensembles on receiving various Gold and Silver ratings at the State level!
Congratulations to the cast of MAME for three successful performances! A special ‘thank you’ to everyone who came to the show and for the support they showed the cast, crew and directors.
Girls’ Choir, Mixed Choir and Concert Choir are busy preparing for their Spring Concert which will take place on May 4 at 3:00 p.m. We hope to see you at that performance!
Guidance Office Info
The End-of-Course Assessments (ECAs) will be here before we know it! Three ECAs are administered to students in the spring. Subjects that are tested include Biology 1, Algebra 1, and English 10. Students who are tested include those currently enrolled in the classes or who need to retake one of the tests.
Tests will be held on the following days:
Biology 1--Tuesday, April 22nd
Algebra 1--Tuesday, April 29th
English 10--Wednesday, April 30th
It is very important that students who need to test attend school on these days. Contact Guidance with any questions.
