Message from Leadership

Dear Warrior Family,


Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! Proud Warriors “Stand Together and Embrace Our Reality”! We will continue to build a culture and climate at Salvador H. Sanchez where we are On the War Path to Excellence!


Our Proud Warriors will have Endless Opportunities on their Path to Excellence. As we prepare ALL of our students for college and career readiness, they will have the following opportunities at Salvador H. Sanchez: Pre-AP courses, Robotics, GT, Entrepreneurship, WIN, AVID, Fine Arts and Project Lead the Way (CTE) courses to choose from. In addition, students can compete in UIL athletics and academic competitions as well as robotics and Destination Imagination. We encourage every student to get involved in one of the many endless opportunities offered.


Our mission at Salvador H. Sanchez is to ensure the progress of all through a collaborative and technology rich environment. With the vision that All will Learn, All will Respect and All will Succeed! This begins each day with ensuring we are present at school whether it be remotely or in person when the time is right. We are committed to providing a positive learning environment.


2020-2021 will be a year like no other. We will begin the year with remote teaching and learning that will present great opportunities and challenges but challenges that we have prepared for all summer. As a team we will stand together and embrace our reality and it will take all of us and our efforts and a strong partnership between campus and home to meet the needs of our scholars. All stakeholders are experiencing unprecedented times and we ask for your patience, understanding and support during this transition back to school.

It is my privilege to serve as your campus principal and I along with the faculty and staff will ensure the success of our scholars as we work side by side promoting a positive and flexible learning environment. Textbook and Supplemental Distribution

Warriors, next week we will have a drive-through textbook and supplemental material distribution at Salvador H. Sanchez Middle School. Please drive through the parking lot on the dates below. ALL STUDENTS NEED THEIR TEXTBOOKS AND SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL. All students will begin the year through REMOTE LEARNING, these materials are essential for all. Please make plans to drive through on your designated grade level day to pick up your child's instructional materials. Students and families will have access to hands-on, grade level materials for the New School Year.

Great News!!

We know this unprecedented time has made back to school shopping difficult, so we are providing our Warriors with essential supplies to start 2020-2021! Below is the list of supplies each student will receive with their textbook pick up.

Warrior Remote Learning Schedule



August 17th, is the First day of instruction with Remote Learning. ALL of our students will be at home, accessing LIVE lessons delivered remotely by our teachers via the internet using their technology.

All students bell schedule reflects A/B Block schedule and a Friday schedule. Please refer to schedule Below.



  • The A/B block will allow for students to attend four 90-minute class periods on A day (1st-4th period) and four 90-minute class periods on B day (5th-8th).

  • On Fridays, students will attend all 8 of their classes.

  • Please remember that instruction for the 2020-2021 school year will begin with Virtual Remote Learning and will transition to on campus learning under the guidance of local health officials, as the safety of our community is our number one priority.

Important information for the start of the school year:


1. Virtual Open House and Meet the Teacher: Friday, August 14, 2020, at 5 pm. A virtual tour will be available on our website and teachers will invite families through student's school email address to "Meet the Teacher" through Teams on August 14.


2. Remote Learning First Day of School: Monday, August 17, 2020, at 8:15 am. Teachers will be ready to receive students starting at 8:15. As a special note, please take time to test your technology prior to the first day of school. We will be patient to make sure all students and parents learn the routine.


3. Dress code: Red or White Polo shirts are school appropriate. In addition, we have school spirit T-shirts that can be purchased for $10 that are allowed. Students need or khaki pants (any shade of brown), or black pants (no spandex or leggings). *Special Note: During COVID Pandemic, students are allowed to wear non-altered, tattered jeans with Spirit School T-shirt. School shirts must not be covered up at any time during instruction.


We look forward to our community’s partnership to “Stand Together and Embrace Our Reality”! This begins with attending school virtually every day! We look forward to a positive and productive year together!

Tips for Online Learning

  1. Have a dedicated workspace where you can stretch out and see all your materials.
  2. Set your alarm so that you can be ready to access your LIVE lessons on time.
  3. Keep your television and radio off during LIVE lessons to avoid distractions.
  4. Use a planner, binder, notebook, etc... to help you stay organized.
  5. School uniform tops during online learning is highly encouraged to establish a mindset of being in the traditional educational setting. School appropriate attire is the expectation.
  6. Participate! Ask Questions! Your teachers are ready to help!
  7. Be Positive and Stay Positive!

Welcome to Salvador H. Sanchez Middle School

This guide will help all students understand campus expectations for remote and school learning. Due to the pandemic, and circumstances surrounding our School, policies and procedures are fluid to change.

School Day

SISD designated the school day as follows:

8:15-8:30 Breakfast in the classroom

8:30-Tardy

3:30 PM Dismissal Bell Schedule

Arrival:

Students and parents are strongly encouraged not to arrive to campus prior to 7:45 am for safety reasons. Classes do not begin until 8:15 to ensure social distancing.

After School:

Students are expected to leave the campus immediately. Students riding the bus or being picked up by parent must adhere to social distancing guidelines until safely picked up. Students will always wear an appropriate face mask. This is to include outside designated pick up areas.

Attendance

Attendance must be taken at the beginning of every period in the first 10 minutes of class. After 10 minutes the students will be counted absent.

Remote Learning- students are expected to log on to classes 10 minutes early for technology check. If there are technical issues, the student must be sure to submit classwork (for each class) before 11:59 PM in order to be counted present for that day.

Grading and Report Cards and Progress Reports

Grades should be maintained, and grading should be in accordance with updated SISD Policy.

Students will receive a progress report every third week of the grading period and report cards every nine weeks.

Passing 70% and above

Failing 69% and below

I = Incomplete grades

Conduct Grades:

S= Satisfactory

N= Needs Improvement

U= Unsatisfactory

Socorro ISD has developed a list of questions and answers to openly share information and proactively answer questions regarding students and employees returning to school and work for the 2020-2021 school year. We know our stakeholders have many questions, and we will do our best to answer all in a timely manner, but we ask for your patience as our team continues to work through the many issues that must be addressed. Rest assured that we will update this list and communicate with you often as information becomes available and as we seek additional guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Texas Education Agency (TEA) and local health and government officials.

Transportation

Students living two or more miles from school qualify for bus transportation. Students must show ID cards prior to boarding the bus. Riding the bus is a privilege. Improper behavior on the bus may result in denial of privileges and or/fine.

During COVID- Parents are highly encouraged to transport students to and from school.

Lunch

Campus learners will eat lunch in their classrooms with a supervising adult.

Remote learners- will log off the computer and log back on after lunch.

Cell Phone Use

SISD permits students to possess personal electronic devices on school property; they must remain off and not be visible on student’s person during instructional day (8:15-3:30).

Confiscated Telecommunication Devices-

· 1st- Return to parent/guardian after 3:45 pm no exception.

· 2nd- Five day waiting period

· 3rd- End of the semester

The school is not responsible for the loss/theft/damage of a personal communication device. Students bring all electronics at their own risk.

2020-2021 Spirit Shirts

Proud Warriors "Stand Together, Embrace our Reality Spirit Shirts are now available for $10! We ordered a limited supply, please email our campus secretary mgomez10@sisd.net or call 937-5205 to purchase yours today ! These shirts are allowed and part of the dress code everyday.


Please note: The sizes are universal adult small, medium and large (XL). Once you select a size it will be set aside for drive through pick-up. Absolutely no fitting or returns due to safety precautions.

Dress Code (Refer to Flyer)

It is the philosophy of SISD and Sanchez MS that students maintain high standards of dress, grooming and appearance. The following specific dress code is expected in addition to the SISD standards of acceptable attire.

Masks are always required on any SISD property during this time of Pandemic. All CDC guidelines will be followed.

Remote Learning- To promote a positive learning environment and to establish a daily educational routine, students are highly encouraged to wear school uniform shirt; In addition, to practice standards of dress, grooming and appearance. Students will be expected to have camera on and interact with their peers. All clothing needs to be school appropriate.
