Tidbits From the Teacher
Hi Everyone-
I'm sorry that I didn't realize our newsletter wasn't updated last week. With the unexpected death of Mr. Caldwell's brother, I was a bit off my schedule.
Field Day was fun for the class. We didn't expect to get soaking wet so we were a bit unprepared for that but now we'll know what to bring next year!
This week holds adventures and so does each week after this until the last week of school! There is a lot going on so check the calendar and planner often.
Have a great week!

Homework
It will be very important that students walk into 4th grade with those facts memorized in order to start the year off right. Fourth grade begins the math year with a multiplication unit on two by two problems. If a student doesn't know math facts, that puts him/her at a disadvantage right away.
I don't want that to happen!
What We're Studying and Learning...
Reading: We are working on analyzing drama this week and looking for author's message in text or plays. These are deeper level skills that require more application than earlier lessons required.
Writing: We are still looking at persuasion through the eyes of media and advertising. Students have analyzed ads and articles then tried writing a persuasive piece. This week they will polish their persuasive pieces after meeting with their writing partner. They will also look at formal and informal digital writing to look at how different reading skills are used according to the type of writing they are involved with.
Math: We are working on multiplication and division problems this week. There will be multiple steps involved and those that are ready will delve into two by two problems to ready them for fourth grade.
Science: We are working on exploring types of energy: mechanical, light, sound, and heat/thermal as a wrap up to last week's beginning explorations on this topic. We will then begin exploring our solar system: the sun, order of the planets, the moon, day/night cycle and all of the amazing things that make up our universe.
