Dear Alto Families,
Next week, we will celebrate Halloween on Monday, October 31st. The school parade will start at 2:30 PM. Parents are encouraged to join us! Please see the attached map for the outside parade route and parent viewing areas. The parent viewing area will be outside unless we have inclement weather that day. If we have inclement weather, the parent viewing areas will be moved inside.
The plans for class parties and activities has been communicated by your child’s teacher. The teachers have also reached out regarding volunteer opportunities. We ask that parents do not “drop in” at parties unless they are signed up to volunteer or prior arrangements are made with the teacher. We hope that this relieves some pressure parents often feel to attend class parties because they think it is expected that every parent attends.
We encourage students to bring costumes to wear for the parties and parade. Please note: Toy weapons, blood and gore are not allowed with costumes at school.
Parade Procedures - October 31st - 2:30 PM
Please see the attached map for the outside parade route and parent viewing areas.
If we experience inclement weather, the parade will be moved inside. Please see the map for an inside parade (parent viewing areas will be in the cafeteria, gym, and the East/West hallway).
If you are taking your child home after the parade, you may sign them out with your child’s teacher. Please go to the exterior door of your child’s classroom. If we experience inclement weather, please go to the inside classroom door.
Our goal will be to have all parents leave the school by 3:15 PM to prepare for our dismissal process. This is especially important if parking in our bus zone, student pick up area, or any other area that would impede dismissal traffic.
We’re looking forward to this fun event with our students and families!
Sincerely,
Paul Papes, Principal
Thank you!!! The Book Fair was a great success!
Gym Happenings!
We are to the point in the year when we transition our physical education class from being outside as much as possible to being back in the gym. It has sure been nice being able to run, learn, and exercise in the fresh air, but we are ready to continue the fun where it is warm.
The last time I wrote our physical education blurb, we were in the middle of our frisbee unit. Our kindergarten and first grade students focused a lot on mastering both the backhand throw and frisbee catch. We worked on accuracy by playing catch with partners and throwing at our stacking cup formations. Our second and third graders focused on throwing at targets from longer distances. We threw at stacking cups, cones, as well as got outside to play some polyspot disc golf. Fourth and fifth graders were able to hone their frisbee skills playing ultimate frisbee and Alto style disc golf. I was very impressed with what I witnessed from all grade levels.
We are currently finishing up our overhand throwing unit. Our kindergarten and first grade friends have learned the basics of throwing and catching smaller round athletic balls. We have played some silly throwing games to make it fun. Second and third graders have worked on throwing accuracy. They created hula huts to throw at and have played a game based off the old American Gladiator show to practice throwing at moving targets. Fourth and fifth graders were introduced to the game of handball. We first worked on handball skills and strategy. Once the students had a decent handle on the sport, we applied our newly acquired skills and knowledge in a handball game.
Our next couple of units in PE are some of my favorites. We will be starting our foot skills and kicking unit next week and this will be followed by our roller skating unit. Roller skating permission slips will be coming home next week. Please make sure to read, sign, and return in a timely fashion.
Having appropriate gym shoes is even more important as we transition to more time in the gym. Please make sure your student has a pair. Stay healthy, keep active, and GO BLUE!
