Peer Pressure

How is it effecting you?

Sometimes, kids don’t have control over what happens and peer pressure plays a huge roll in that. Peer pressure can make kids do minor to serious things they might not want to do. Peer pressure can happen anywhere in any form like joining a sports team they don’t want to do but their friend does to stealing and drinking. Some kids think that is cool if their friends do something so they do it too to try and gain friendship; But if you’re trying to be cool to be someone's friend then they don’t deserve you.

This video contains a good look at peer pressure and shows a key concept that goes along with pressure into drinking. Only one of the girls were verbally skeptical of the drinking. The girls didn’t even think about what they were drinking or the consequences. Why do you think the girls didn’t notice that the ‘vodka’ was so easy to drink? And they even covered it up that they were drinking. When Joey came down the girls tried to make up excuses even though they didn’t even realize they were just drinking lemon water. At the end of the video, when Joey asked them why they did it, The girls confessed to pressuring one of their friends to drink too. This is a good source because it shows an actual situation that happened.

The same guy that made the video about peer pressure with alcohol also made a video about peer pressure against weed. In many situations, the other person says yes because they were talked into it. It was the third individual that really put up a fight before giving in. The father of the girl brought up a good point about this situation and the fact that he kept telling her to not do things like that and despite all that preaching she still was going to try it. When it really comes down to it, no matter what other people say, you are the one who decides if something bad goes into your body.

While there are bad types of peer pressure like for drugs or alcohol and even worse things like stealing or vandalism there are also good types of peer pressure like doing your homework with a friend instead of what you wanted to do. By surrounding yourself with good peer pressure and good friends you can benefit a lot.
