Patriot Notes 12/6-12/21

Patriot Elementary Mission:
“For every student to become a lifelong learner and a confident, productive member of society by providing an engaging, safe, and supportive academic community.”
A Note from the Principal:
Hello Patriot Families!
Happy Holidays! As we come to the end of another successful semester, I wanted to personally thank you for all of your support. Walt Disney once said, "You can create and design, and build the most wonderful place in the world, but it takes people to make the dream a reality." This is certainly the case as the principal of Patriot. The reality is that the learning experiences that have taken place this semester could not have happened without the great deal of commitment and support from our teachers, front office, school nurse, cafeteria workers, building custodians, paraprofessionals, school behavioral health, subs, interventionists, SRO, mental health team, instructional coach, special service providers, volunteers, and our parents. We can't thank everyone enough, and a special thank you to our PTO, who always goes above and beyond.
Beginning on Monday, 12/6, we will have our "12 Days of Holidays" celebration with spirit days and fun! Classroom teachers will also be reaching out to support our winter holiday parties. We hope to see you visit Patriot during our holiday celebrations.
As always, we wish to express our sincere gratitude toward our entire school community. We would not be the amazing school that we are without the help and support of all of you. Thank you and may you have a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season!
Kindly,
Mrs. Canon, Principal

Ask your child about Amplify Reading:
What is Amplify Reading?
Amplify Reading uses individual student performance on the mCLASS benchmark screener to place students into a powerful, engaging, and adaptive program, Amplify Reading, which offers explicit and extensive practice in the critical literacy skills that mCLASS measures. This is accomplished through “gamified” activities and quests that motivate students to engage in ongoing practice.
· This 3-minute video will give you a brief overview of the what Amplify Reading is and how it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BetKSi6WABg
Students can practice reading at home with their log ins!
Hi Patriot Families!
My name is, Alicia Klinker, and I am the counselor at Patriot. If you would please take a few minutes to fill out this survey in order for me to best support student needs this year I would greatly appreciate it. This information will also help me create small groups that will run throughout the school year. If you would like your child to participate in small group, please know a permission slip will be coming home and your child may not participate in group until spring. I will also be screening who participates in group this year in order to best serve students. If your student may need supports and group is not the best fit, please know I will reach out and see the best way I can help. This information stays confidential and only the mental health team has access to it. Please reach out with any questions or concerns.

4th and 5th Grade Student Chromebooks:
Just a reminder that all 4th and 5th students will be assessed an annual laptop fee of $40 for the first child and $20 for each sibling. This is reflected in Infinite Campus. Please see our parent/student handbook for more information.
Volunteers/Visitors
We love our volunteers! We recognize the important role they play in education and in supporting our Patriot community. However, out of precautionary practices with the ever-changing COVID landscape and federal mandates, we will be limiting visitors and volunteers to the school. Please continue to watch for updates to this practice.
Attendance Practices at Patriot:
Illness Guidelines for School
1. Children who have temperatures of 100.0 (Fahrenheit) or above should not attend school. Children should remain home until their temperature has been normal (98.6 degrees), without any fever reducing medication for up to 48 hours.
2. Children who have cold symptoms such as: a constant runny nose, with abnormal color (green, yellow, or white) or thick nasal discharge, constant coughing, or lung congestion should not be in school.
3. Children who have been diagnosed with an infection and have been placed on medication should not return to school until they have taken the medication for up to 48 hours after the first dose.
4. Children who have had vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours should not attend school for up to 48 hours.
5. Children who have an undiagnosed skin rash or open skin lesion should not be in school.
6. Children who have red, inflamed eyes with a thick discharge and have a fever and/or behavioral changes should not be in school.
If any of the above signs and symptoms are present at school, the parent will be contacted to pick up the child. We do not want children to miss school, but keeping sick children home will improve everyone's attendance and health in the long run.
If any of the above signs and symptoms last longer than 48 hours, please contact your child's school nurse before they return to school.
If your child is hospitalized or treated for an infectious disease, please provide your child's school a written statement from the health care provider that your child is no longer contagious and is cleared to return to school.
