The Buzz at Westbrook

October 25, 2019

From the Principal...

Dear Westbrook Families,

We love to see families at Westbrook! Thank you to all of our volunteers who have helped in the classrooms and in the LRC, as well as those who have helped with Pumpkin Math, Tasty Bites, Walk for Westbrook, Garden Walks, school supplies, and the list goes on! We feel very fortunate to be part of such a supportive community. Thank you to all of the family members who take time out of their busy schedules to attend PTO meetings, PEPS meetings, Early Childhood Parent Education nights, English Learner Parent Nights, Technology Nights, Principal Coffees, and more!

We look forward to seeing many of you at our parent-teacher conferences!

Kindness at Westbrook

At Westbrook, we strongly believe in helping students to develop their social-emotional intelligence. In addition to celebrating acts of kindness through bee tickets and bee sashes, we are also very fortunate to have a Kindness Club that many of our first graders have joined. This club has led coat and food drives, made blankets for animal shelters, and much more! Check out this video to see how #kindnessmatters at Westbrook!

PTO

We are so thankful for the Westbrook PTO and all of the amazing things that they do for the students and families at Westbrook! Through the Walk for Westbrook, $22,400 was raised!

We look forward to seeing many of you at the first PTO-sponsored family night of the year! On Friday, November 15th at 6:30pm, we will have our first Family Connection Event hosted by our PTO. We will have someone coming in to share about different types of animals.

During this time, families are also encouraged to stop by our Book Fair!

Fall Conferences

Our online conference sign up window ends on November 1st at 10am. If you have not yet signed up for a parent-teacher conference, please do so on Westbrook’s homepage!

Halloween

We will be celebrating Halloween on Thursday, October 31st with a morning parade and an afternoon parade to accommodate our morning and afternoon sessions. If you decide to send in goodie bags/treats, please no food items. Thanks!

On Halloween Day, many families may want to pick up their first grader during the lunch hour (11:50am - 12:50pm) to put on their costumes. First graders should only wear their costumes in the afternoon. We ask ALL first grade families complete this form by noon on Monday, October 28th.

Thursday - October 31, 2019

  • AM Circle of Friends and AM Kindergarten Parade - 10:45am

  • PM Circle of Friends, PM Kindergarten and First Grade Parade - 2:30PM

*In case of inclement weather, we will not be able to move the parade(s) inside our building due to space restrictions. Families will be notified via email by 9am for the morning parade and 1pm for the afternoon parade if the parade(s) will be cancelled.

Officer Friendly Visits

We strongly value our close partnerships with the Mount Prospect Police Department and Mount Prospect Fire Department. On Thursday, our kindergarten classes had the opportunity to meet with Officer Friendly to learn about the important role that police officers play in supporting our community.
