Reminders
Call the Office
If your student will be late for school or not in school one day, please contact the office and leave a message for Nancy.
After school Plans
Any change of plans for your student's after school transportation, please leave a message with the office before 2:00. The end of the day is a busy time.
Recess
Our policy is to send our students out for a break (recess) for all nine months of school. Children should bring adequate clothes for weather conditions. Children will not go outside for recess when the temperature is -5º F or colder or the wind chill is -15º F or colder.
It is extremely important for children to have outdoor play time daily. If parents request their student not go outside, parents must provide written orders from their child’s health care provider. If parents feel their child is too sick to go outside, then they may be too sick to come to school.
Winter Clothing
Make sure all clothing is labeled; any unclaimed items will go to the lost and found.
Bus drivers will prohibit students from entering the bus if they are not adequately dressed for the weather.
If your child is in need of warm clothing, coats, gloves, etc. contact Elementary Counselor Mrs.Haider. Thank you for helping us keep your child safe and warm for all outdoor activities!

A New Semester
As we begin a new semester I would like to wish a very Happy New Year to our South Prairie Families! It is so nice to have our classrooms filled with students again! I hope your students are as excited to be back, as we are excited to have them! As we begin 2024, I want to assure everyone that the high expectations in academics set from the beginning of the year will continue as we begin this second semester.
South Prairie thanks you for your continued support of our school and students. It is truly the community, parents, and staff partnering and working together that allows us to maintain the successes we have so long enjoyed here at South Prairie!
Best wishes for the New Year,
Mrs. Neshem
Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS)
South Prairie has started using a Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports framework (PBIS). PBIS is an approach schools use to promote school safety and good behavior. With PBIS, schools teach kids about behavior expectations and strategies. Our school teaches students positive behavior strategies, just as we would teach about any other subject. South Prairie recognizes that students can only meet behavior expectations if they know what the expectation are. With this framework everyone learns what is considered appropriate behavior, we will use a common language throughout the school, in class, at lunch, and on the bus, so students will understand what is expected of them. The focus of PBIS is prevention and not punishment.
Students will receive ROYAL ROCK slips throughout the year, highlighting one of our 3 school expectations: RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE & SAFE. Watch for these to come home on Fridays. As students receive ROCK Slips they have the opportunity to earn up to three BRAG TAGs that can hang from their backpack, to celebrate their positive behaviors with everyone.
