Notes & Reminders
Now, it's time for the children to focus on THEIR OWN Nutcracker performance! Grandparents' Day will be on Tuesday, December 12th. Grandparents will come at 1:30 pm to see our performance and then come to see our classroom! If you would like your child to go home with his/her grandparent after the performance, you MUST sign the permission slip that was sent home last week. If you've misplaced your copy, please let me know. I will send home another copy. Parents, you'll get to see the program during our evening performance on Tuesday, December 12th. The program will begin at 6:30 pm. You can drop your child off at our classroom at 6:15 pm. Students are required to participate in the evening performance as part of their music grade.
I'd also like to thank you all for your generosity during the student council food drive. Our classroom collected 234 food items! Thank you so much for helping us help the Hobart Food Pantry.
Language Arts
We'll also finish writing our stories for our Turkeys in Disguise.
Math
This week, we'll continue to practice adding 2-digit numbers together. The students are doing a great job adding using the traditional algorithm, or as I like to call it, "Mom and Dad's way!" Each day, students practice using the traditional algorithm. Students who are struggling come back to work with Mrs. Polomchak and me in small strategy groups. While students are still allowed to use any of the strategies we've learned, most of them have taken a liking to the good old way of adding 2-digit numbers! The most common mistakes second graders make are forgetting to carry the ten, forgetting to add the ten, and inaccuracy in addition. Parents, you can help out too by watching for these mistakes in your child's homework so your child can correct and learn from his/her mistake.
Keep practicing facts, too! Fact fluency will increase our accuracy! Our last day to reach our benchmark of +10 will be December 21st!
