A note from the Principal
Dear Parents & Caregivers
Solemnity of Christ the King
Last Sunday the Church celebrated the solemnity of Christ the King. This day was established in the 20th century shortly after World War One had ended. The then Pope, Pope Pius XI, recognised the unrest in society and established the day for people to renew their faith in Christ and provide hope in our world where so many were still suffering. Today, people reflect on the occasion and pray that the light of the Gospel brings peace to the world.
Student Leadership
In order to give our students greater voice in our school, and to provide them with opportunities to develop as leaders, St Mary’s will be restructuring our student leadership roles for 2022. Next year we will have 2 heads, 2 deputy heads and 4 faction captains from Year 6, and 2 class representatives from Year 3, 4 and 5. These people will collectively form a student council and will work towards promoting student voice and driving our social justice initiatives in the school. Our new council will be working under the guidance of Mrs Annie Hutton. Year 6 positions will be announced at the end of year graduation Mass, with class reps being voted upon early next year. Class rep positions will change each semester.
CEWA Low Fees Initiative
Recently we shared information regarding next year’s fee structure and St Mary’s involvement in the Low Fees Initiative. Further information on the fee structure can now be found on our school website.
SAC Annual Community Meeting
On Monday night we held our Schools Advisory Council Annual Community Meeting. Our council for next year will be made up of Ben Rose, Merrin Lowe, Jo Swarbrick, Alex Nietrzeba, Gary Dimasi and Erin Delaporte. Thank you to these people who will be joining our school leadership team in driving positive change in our school in 2022. Staffing allocations were also announced at this meeting. If you missed the night, please check our school website in the coming days for the Principal’s Report and 2022 Staffing information.
P&F Annual General Meeting
On Monday night we also held our Parents and Friends Annual General Meeting. Unfortunately, at this meeting we were not able to establish a committee for 2022. Thank you to Eileen Patane and Samantha Russo who volunteered to be the Treasurer and Secretary respectively. If you are able to support the school in the capacity of President or Vice-president, please see me as soon as possible. Please refer to the school website in the coming days for further information on the meeting.
Kindergarten 2022
There are now only two places available for our Kindergarten 2022 program. If you are interested in enrolling, please contact the office as soon as possible.
Leonardo Day
Tomorrow, Friday 26th November, our Year 5 and 6 students will be participating in Leonardo Day. Leonardo Day is a fun, interactive Science fair which will be held in Brunswick this year. Information has been sent home to parents already.
Nativity and Christmas Concert
Our Nativity and Christmas concert night is being held this evenning, Thursday 25th November beginning at 5:30pm. All students are expected to meet in their class at 5pm. Students are to wear all black with classes allocating simple costume designs. We are looking forward to a great night.
P&F Apple Fun Park Day
On Friday the 3rd December, we will have our final assembly for the year followed by a school excursion, supported by the P&F, to the Apple Fun Park. This promises to be a fun event for our students and a celebration of all their hard work this year. On this day students must wear their full sports uniform including closed in shoes and a hat. Students must also bring a water bottle and come with sun cream on. The P&F will be providing a sausage sizzle and an icy pole.
Graduation and Awards Evening
This year’s Graduation and Awards Evening will be held in the Church on Wednesday 8th December commencing at 5:30pm. On this night we will be giving thanks for our year at St Mary’s, awarding prizes to school and class winners, announcing our leaders for 2022 and farewelling our Year 6 students. All families and friends are invited to join us.
Socktober
Our Socktober fundraiser for Catholic Missions raised the amazing amount of $223.90. This year’s money will go to families in Thailand.
Final Day of School
Our final day of school for students is Friday 10th December. Reports will go home on this day. The staff will be at school the following week for professional development and planning for 2022. If you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind regards,
Mr Andrew Gammon
Principal
