We would like to introduce you to Colleen Condon who is the new nurse at Camillus Middle School.
She is a Le Moyne graduate, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.
Condon started her career providing private duty care for the elderly population for three years, and performed as a substitute school nurse at West Genesee for one year before starting full time.
She grew up in Marcellus, New York, where she currently resides. In her spare time, she enjoys listening to music, reading, walking her two dogs, painting, and playing the piano. She loves spending time with her friends and family.

Message from Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction
As we all settle into the school year and the pending cold weather, the school days progress quickly. While the speed of the year is upon us, decisions that impact student learning are being made methodically and with careful consideration to what is best for students. West Genesee has a comprehensive approach to curricular decision-making, ensuring that those decisions are shared by representative voices from the entire school community, including parents.
Each building has a Guiding Coalition that stems from its work with the PLC at Work process from Solution Tree. The work in these guiding coalitions focuses on four questions:
What is it we want students to know and be able to do?
How will we know when they know it or can do it?
What will we do if they don’t know it or can’t do it yet?
What will we do if they already know it/can do it?
Additionally, our K-6 teachers have Literacy and Math institutes, where they spend time on content and developing answers to support the questions above, and there are team leaders who support this content development and information distribution. At Grades 7-12, there are department leaders who also engage in this work.
When a curriculum review is started, the work begins with the committees above. When ideas are generated, there are Curriculum Councils who review any recommendations for movement or improvement in a curricular area at the elementary, intermediate, and high school levels. Curriculum Council members are asked to analyze recommendations from different perspectives and provide feedback, if needed, or make a decision to recommend to the next level, which is the Educational Development Committee (a team of teachers and administrators) and the Parent Curriculum Information Committee (member representatives from each building’s PTA/PTO). Once vetted by these committees, the recommendation is made to the Superintendent and Board of Education for approval. If approved, the curriculum is slated for implementation.
Currently, the District is working on examining K-4 Math curricular choices for the 2024-2025 school year. The decisions made on curriculum are based on data related to the four questions from the PLC at Work process. Of course, the link to the goals of our strategic plan is considered as well. Also considered throughout the process are nuances of a program related to instructional practice, potential for student breadth and depth of knowledge including exposure to world connections, and effectiveness and efficiency of implementation.
What does this mean for your child(ren)? It means that when a program is being used in the classroom for instructional purposes, they are receiving a curriculum that has been fully vetted in a number of settings and with a variety of perspectives. Our goal is to ensure that students have optimal environments to enhance their learning and their understanding of the world around them, and that includes the curriculum. With so many opportunities at our fingertips right now for students to learn about different career pathways, we are continuously reviewing our programming and considering ways in which we can expand it, improve it, and adjust it so that students have as much experience as possible to ensure they are ready for the next step in their lives - whether it is the next grade level or life after their K-12 educational program.
As decisions are made, we will keep you informed so you can support your child(ren) at home with questions about what they are learning and how they are engaging with the curricular material.
Stacey Eger-Converse
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction

New Website and Mobile App
We have redesigned the West Genesee website and took into consideration the information shared in the results of the survey we distributed in June. It is now easier to find items directly related to your school from that school's homepage. It is also very mobile responsive and easy to find items from your phone. However, if you have questions about the new site, please email them to publications@westgenesee.org.
In addition to the new website, we have also launched a new mobile phone app to communicate to students, parents, and community members about West Genesee news, upcoming events, and other important information. The West Genny app is available to download free from the Apple App store or the Google Play store. For more information about the mobile app, click here to view a video about the app.
This app is different from your ParentVUE app which you will continue to use to communicate with teachers, check on schedules, and other items that relate directly to your specific child(ren).
