Weekly Newsletter - 12/17/18

12/14/18

Hello RHE families,

I hope that you had a wonderful week! Please see below for updated information and happenings at RHE. There is a lot of new information contained below.

I would like to thank Miss McVoy and Mrs. Vaughan for another outstanding Winter Concert. The children sounded great and the teachers did such a nice job preparing the students for what the parents saw and heard this week. For the limited amount of time they have to practice, they produce such amazing results! In addition, thank you to all the teachers and staff that helped prepare for the concert and who helped supervise the students last night.

Winter Break: School will be closed December 24-January 1. School will resume on Wednesday, January 2, 2019.

CR Cares - MLK Day Collection

Please take a moment to read the CR CARES Letter 18-19 regarding the district’s annual collection. Each year, sixth graders in each elementary school participate in the CRSD Day of Service held on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The items that are collected are donated to local families in need. Please see CR CARES Donation List. The collection will take place January 2-17. We thank you for any donations you can offer.

Transportation Reminders/Procedures

Car Riders - Car riders can be dropped off at school at 8:50. We ask the students remain in their cars until 8:50. When a staff member comes out to the car rider line, students may begin to enter the school. Our teachers are busy preparing for the day or are in meetings in the mornings. If students are dropped off before 8:50, the students will not have the proper supervision. Our dismissal begins at 3:40. Walkers and car riders are called first. Our staff members will begin walking the students outside a couple minutes after that. The car rider line does move quickly, but the line can back up onto Middle Holland Road. We ask for your patience as you are pulling in and out for the school parking lot. If it is raining at dismissal, the students will be dismissed to the cars from the gym.

Like many of the families here, there are days that my children are busy with afterschool activities, and I understand the need for parents to pick up the students in the car rider line. When possible, we ask the students ride their assigned busses. This can help with safety and the number of cars in the line and parking lot. Additionally, there are times when our busses have left school before the end of the car rider line.

Bus Riders - Our teachers have continued to review our Roadrunner rules with the students. These rules also extend to the busses. We ask that you please help reinforce these concepts at home as well. Below are the expectations of our bus riders:

  • Use friendly and kind words with other students and the bus driver.

  • Find your seat and sit down immediately.

  • Keep your body in your own spot in your seat. Remain sitting down and facing front.

  • Please keep arms and legs out of the aisle and inside the bus at all times.

  • Use an inside, quiet voice when speaking.

  • Listen to the bus driver and bus safeties.

  • Electronic devices are not to be used on the bus and at bus stops.

Bus Stops - We have discussed how our Roadrunner rules continue to apply to the bus stops. We want to be good neighbors and partners with the community. Many of our stops are located at corners and driveways of residents that do not have children in our school. We ask that students be respectful of community property when waiting at bus stops. Additionally, many of our stops have a lot of children and waiting parents. Playing tag and throwing balls at the bus stops may put some of our students at risk of getting injured.

Bus Passes - Students are not allowed to board or get off a bus other than their officially assigned stop in accordance with Pennsylvania Department of Education regulations. In the case of an emergency or day care issue, please contact the school office or send a note to your child’s teacher. A bus pass will be issued for your student to give to the bus driver just for that day.

Walkers - Students who walk should NOT report before 8:50 a.m. since supervision is not available. Upon their arrival, those children should go directly to their locker/classroom. Students walking home need to be respectful of the crossing guards and community property. Students are not permitted to stay and play in the playground without the supervision of parent/guardian.

Back Parking lot- We continue to ask that parents do not park in the back parking lot off of Old Jordan Road. Deliveries for the school and maintenance vehicles are often in the this parking lot which can create unsafe conditions for our students and parents driving in and out. Please use the car rider line in the main school parking lot.

Lastly, many parents drive their children to bus stops and walking paths before and after school. I certainly understand the need for this during inclement weather. However, please be mindful when parking as to not block community driveways, roads, and community member parking spaces.

Your help with this is greatly appreciated.
