Weekly Happenings at Southeastern Elementary
Principal's Postings
Welcome to the January 24, 2019, edition of Southeastern Scene.
Dear Southeastern Families:
We wanted to reach out to you to ask for your support in helping us to keep all of our children safe. This request comes in response to conversations that we are hearing here at school from our students. We have heard on many occasions about our students watching YouTube videos at home.
YouTube offers many healthy avenues for learning, inquiry, and research. However, we are aware of students searching and watching videos at home that may not be developmentally appropriate or that contain content they may not be equipped to deal with emotionally.
Please take time to have an open conversation with your child about the content they are viewing and check all devices at home to make sure they are not accidentally being exposed to unhealthy content. If you have any questions you can always vet web content through https://www.commonsensemedia.org .
In the same spirit of safety, be sure to review the message from our school counselor below regarding how to talk to kids about violence, crime and war.
Yours in education,
Mrs. Chastain

Nurse's Notes
Sometimes it is hard to know the difference between the common cold and the flu. Please see below information about how to treat your student if he or she is experiencing any of these symptoms. After any illness, your child should be fever free (temp < 100) for twenty four (24) hours before returning to school. Not all contagious illnesses are accompanied by fever; therefore, the child must also be symptom free for twenty-four (24) hours before returning to school in order to protect others from infection. Symptom free would include fever, vomiting, and diarrhea free for twenty-four (24) hours.
