January 2019

Director's Note

Happy New Year and welcome to our 2019 newsletter. I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing holiday. I can’t say that it has been very relaxing around here as we have gone from one event to another- but we sure have fun!

Two important things to draw your attention. First, we are going to test your Harry Potter knowledge January 12th during Harry Potter Trivia Night. This is for all ages. Check elsewhere in the newsletter for more information. This is sure to be a popular event so please register!

Second, the YAC teens are holding their annual fundraiser. They will be doing a Read-a-thon again this year. You can give a flat donation of any amount to a member of YAC or sponsor them by a donation amount per page. The Read-a-thon is January 4th and checks may be made out to the Friends of the Carlisle Library. Donations can also be made all year long. Don’t know anyone in YAC but still want to donate? The Friends of the Carlisle Library will gladly take your donation!

Thank you for your generosity!

First Tuesday Book Club

Every month on the First Tuesday there is an Adult Book Club that meets to discuss books from various genres. We will meet at 6:30 pm on January 8th to discuss Reader's choice of holiday stories or poems. Our new book will be The True Story of Hansel and Gretel by Louise Murphy.

Teen Scene

YAC Read-A-Thon

Please consider donating to YAC. The Youth Advisory Committee helps to plan all of the teens event at the library in addition to volunteering at the library. The library would not be as awesome as it is without this group of wonderful teens to help! The teens will be spending a Friday night "locked" in the library to read and earn your donation. If you are interested in donating, please send cash or check (made out to Friends of the Carlisle Public Library) to PO box S, Carlisle, IA 50047 or stop in and see our smiling faces.
