Pastor Martin Valleskey
Hello! I’m Pastor Martin Valleskey, serving Costa Maya Ministries as pastor of our mission in the town of Mahahual, Mexico. Our local congregation is called Cruz de Cristo (“Cross of Christ”) Lutheran Church. Thank you so much for partnering with us to share the saving Gospel of our Lord Jesus in this remote area!
I was born in Blantyre, Malawi (Africa) to Missionary Stephen Valleskey and Sally Valleskey. Having foreign mission work in the family was a big influence on me wanting to do the same. After graduating from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, I served the Hispanic congregations of Christ and St. Peter Lutheran in Milwaukee. In 2015 God called me to preaching the Word on the southern end of the beautiful Caribbean coast of Mexico. By God’s grace around 100 people in and around our town – many of them children - are regularly learning about Jesus! I especially like to go to people’s homes and bring them the Word where they are, up to an hour away from our church building. Very few know what a Lutheran church is, or what the Bible teaches. Others don’t have their own transportation. When we go to the people, more can be filled with God’s Word of grace.
In my free time I enjoy outdoor activities like swimming and diving, and smoking meat on a smoker we built for the church. It’s warm here all the time, so I’m one of the few pastors I know that gets to wear sandals to work. I’ve always been a big fan of Mexican food. Here the seafood straight out of the ocean, often from the same day, is delicious, although the local favorite pepper, the habanero, takes some getting used to.
In the coming months I will share more about God’s work here which YOU are helping to accomplish. Thank you so much for being our mission partner! Please include our mission and me in your prayers!
