This Week at Lenape
Lenape Music Caroling Tour
On Wednesday, 12/21, The Lenape Music and FCS Departments took a pre-pandemic tradition of presenting a Special Person’s Day program and luncheon and reimagined it. Led by Mrs. Tosti, Mr. Cohen, & Mrs. Rogers, members of Lenape’s Orchestra, Band, & Choir went on a caroling tour of Neshaminy Manor and Wesley Enhanced Living. They delivered homemade boxes of cookies, prepared by Ms. Coyne’s FCS students. Students mingled with the residents before performing. They had a fun-filled day of service through music, talking with residents, and bonding with each other. We could not be more proud.

Lenape Garden
Over the past two years, Lenape students have created a garden from the ground up. It started with a group of students who wanted to grow vegetables to donate to local families, so a grant from CB Cares was applied for and awarded. Over the next winter, students made a blueprint- 4 in-ground raised beds, and 2 ADA-height beds. In the classroom, plants were started from seed under grow lights and on warming pads, while outside the garden was being built. In May, vegetables were planted, and by the end of the summer over 150 pounds of vegetables had been donated to the Doylestown Food Pantry. Thank you to all who had a part in the process, you helped feed our community. We look forward to another successful season ahead, which will begin in the classroom in just shortly over a month from now!
French Pen Pals
Madame Gluck’s French Two students got a surprise visit from one of her former students, Carson L. Carson talked to the 9th graders (partially in French, partially in English) about her path from middle school French student to living and working in Paris. She also brought pen-pal letters from French teens, that Madame’s current students were very excited to receive and to answer. Carson will bring the responses back to her students in Paris next week.
HVAC Project Update
Update: Our HVAC project begins over the break! When students return to the building, the ceilings in the corridors will have been removed. The focus of their work in January and February will be accessing and installing ductwork throughout the hallways. Classrooms will not be affected until the beginning of March.
Read below for a broad overview of the project:
The new year will bring some positive and exciting changes to our building! We will begin a renovation project that will provide air conditioning, upgraded lighting, and cosmetic improvements throughout the entire building. The project is scheduled to conclude in the fall of 2024.
The first phase of the project begins in January when ceilings in the corridors will be removed to access and install ductwork. Beginning in March, banks of five to six classrooms will be vacated for periods of approximately six weeks. As a result, many teachers will be moving classrooms at some point during this school year and next school year. To accommodate these moves, we will set up temporary classrooms in the library and the aux gym.
We will continue to share progress updates throughout the project. Although we will face minor inconveniences during this renovation project, the upgrades will make our building more comfortable, more efficient, and more visually appealing.
Program Planning Information
Calling All 9th Grade Families: 10th Grade Program Planning/Course Selection Process
This year for program planning for our 9th grade students, the high school counselors will continue to work closely with the middle schools to ensure that students are on the correct trajectory. To increase efficiency and effectiveness of doing so, we will be using the following plan:
- High school counselors will go to the middle school 9th grade program planning assembly to instruct students on what to do, expectations, etc.
- Students will then put in their course requests for electives and teachers will put in their recommendations for core academic classes.
- Once course requests are in, middle school and high school counselors will review all students’ requests/schedules in depth and will collaborate on meeting with students who have conflicts, questions, or who request a 1:1 meeting for more specific situations.
While our counselors are not meeting with every single student, they will be reviewing each students’ schedule in-depth and will work directly with students and families to problem solve if/when needs arise.
Paramount to the high school transition are relationships and connectedness. We will continue to plan and program for relationship building opportunities as your child transitions to high school, including the forthcoming program planning assembly with high school and middle school counselors, curriculum fair, Q&A with high school counselors during the Intervention and Enrichment time, and welcome days at the high schools. We will share more information about these exciting events soon.
Please reach out to your child’s counselor for additional assistance and information as we work together to support this transition. Thanks!

Edficiency - I&E Scheduling
We have begun using a new program called Edficiency for I&E scheduling. Previously, we were sending a spreadsheet of offerings to students each week and they would sign up using a Sign Up Genius every Friday for the week ahead. We appreciated the student choice that this process provided but found that it was cumbersome and could be difficult for students to get slots with the teachers that they needed to see.
We are excited to begin using Edficiency to streamline the scheduling and accountability process for I&E. Some features of Edficiency include:
- Students will not need to select a place to go each day. They will be automatically scheduled with their teachers.
- They can request specific teachers based on academic needs.
- Teachers can request students for a specific date or range of dates.
- Students can view special I&E sessions that are being advertised.
- Students can rank their teachers based on their needs and can change this at any time.
We are hopeful that Edficiency makes I&E scheduling an easier process for everyone!

Laptop Breakage
We have seen a rise in the amount of screen breaks for student laptops. Our policy covers for 2 broken screens per device. If your child’s laptop screen breaks 3 times, we will be required to send you an invoice for the repair and labor. The current cost for this is $200. Please remind your child to care for their laptops. Some simple steps to assist are:
- Use two hands when holding or moving the device.
- Use clean hands while using the laptop or iPad.
- Use only the provided digital pen or finger on the screen.
- Use only the power adapter that came with the device.
- Use a microfiber cloth to clean the screen.
- Keep device stored in the provided case. This includes traveling through the hallways, on buses, or anytime the device is not being utilized.
- Make sure nothing is on the keyboard, close the lid, and remove all cables if any are plugged into the laptop. Place laptop in your bag carefully.
- Be careful when placing your case on the floor. Keep the device off the floor so screens do not get stepped on by others.
