Crosswalk, Speed, Loop & Bus Info
To Promote Safe Before/After School Transitions at Pioneer
Remember that you can expect a little extra congestion at the start of the school year.
We want to share some important reminders that will help keep students, staff, and families safe all year long.
- Extended drop-offs. Please give your hugs, kisses, and goodbyes either in the car or perhaps even before you load up at home. Have students gather their items and ready to quickly unbuckle and exit the vehicle as soon as you stop at the curb.
- Cars NOT pulling forward in the drop-off/pick-up lanes. If there is room, please pull forward otherwise our traffic flow really suffers.
- Students not getting out on the curb side. We NEED students to get out on the curb side of vehicles. Traffic passing cars is a significant risk so students should not exit a diver's side door.
Drop-Off & Pick-Up Loops
- South Loop: Used by most Grade 1-5 families
- North Loop: Used by most Kindergarten families
Access the south loop by just driving straight once you enter campus. To get to the north loop, just turn left right after the chainlink fence ends on your left. Personal vehicles are not allowed to pick-up or drop-off in the bus loop during before or after school transitions.
Regardless of the loop you use, please adhere to these guidelines ...
Crosswalk Safety
- Make sure your devices are put away while driving
- Slow down and ensure that the crosswalks are clear
- Make sure to monitor your blind spots while on/near campus and especially at the crosswalks
- Stop well short of the crosswalks and only proceed when safe to do so and enough clearance on the other side
This starts before you even get on campus at our McMillan crossing. While community members are not always as attentive to our McMillan crossing as they should be, it is really disappointing when we see that it is a Pioneer family not following the traffic laws and expectations at our crosswalks.
In short, drive like your own child is at the crosswalk and a loved family member is the crossing guard.
Speed Limit - 10 mph
The seconds you might save are NOT worth the life of a student, parent, or staff member.
Yield to Busses and Keep Bus Loop Entry/Exit Clear
- Always yield to our school buses while on and entering/exiting campus
- Keep the entrance/exit of the bus loop clear
- Never pull alongside a school bus when it is exiting the campus (we do allow two lanes of exit traffic when a bus is not in the line)
We know that families like to get off campus before the buses as it saves some time, but we expect our cars not to rush and to allow buses priority to leave the bus lane and exit campus.
Prioritizing our buses allows them to focus on safety.
IMPORTANT: Personal Vehicles are NOT allowed to stop along the curb of the entire bus loop during before or after-school transitions. Cars are through traffic only in the bus loop..
