Easley Weekly Update
Everything you need to know for the coming week.
May 4, 2020
A Note from the principal
Hello Easley families,
I hope everyone had a good weekend and got outside to enjoy the gorgeous weather! It seems crazy that another week has passed and we are beginning week five of remote learning and have been out of school for eight weeks. The Zoom meetings with students continue to be a highlight for me each week. Through all of this, one thing I've learned about myself is that I very much prefer going into work and having interactions with colleagues, students, and families; I miss you all so much! Thank you for all you have done, and continue to do, with your children at home. I know it's not easy and we appreciate how you've partnered with us to keep our kids learning and growing. Please don't forget to make sure they are reading everyday as that is the most important thing they can do to continue their reading growth. As always, should you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. We are in this together!
Report Cards
Your child's current grades are now available. Due to the school closures, we are unable to provide hard copy report cards for Quarter 3 but you are able to view your child’s grades in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. You should have received a letter, in an email, from your child's classroom teacher with details on how to set up the account. The letter provides you with a special access code, unique to your child. You can also find additional instructions on setting up an account by going to https://www.dpsnc.net/Page/383. We especially recommend this option for parents of elementary school students.
Here are links to video tutorials: English - Spanish
If you do not have internet access or are unable to access your child’s grades online, please contact your child’s teacher directly to review progress over the phone.
Teacher Appreciation Day
Tuesday, May 5th is National Teacher Appreciation Day. We are so fortunate to have such passionate, talented, and dedicated educators at Easley. Please take a moment this week and let our teachers know how much they are appreciated. Our PTA is celebrating our staff this week and we are delivering a special surprise and treat to each staff member's house.
Phase 3 Instructional Packets
The next set of instructional workbooks will be available for pick up at Easley on Wednesday, May 6th from 8-10am and 4-6 PM. We will have grade level tables set up at the back bus lot where parents can park and walk up and select the appropriate grade level packet. Some staff members will be present, however, we will not be manning the tables but instead waving from a distance. Please be mindful of the markings and keep a six feet distance between yourself and other families who are picking up packets.
We will also have bins for returning library books and book room books. If you are done with the books your child checked out, please consider stopping by the school and dropping them off. If you are just dropping off books you will not need to get out of the car as we will set up a drive by drop-off station. We'd love to get some of the library books back to prevent possible loss as we are now out of school for the remainder of the year.
Kindergarten Registration
Do you have a rising kindergarten student? Are you wondering about registration? Durham Public Schools is in the process of creating a new registration process in light of our current situation. In the meantime we are in the midst of planning classes for next year and would like to know who will be registering with Easley. Hopefully we will be starting in July; right now we are planning as if that is the case. Please take a moment and complete the form below.
