Big picture

Hello FLEX families,

I am so grateful for all the hard work and dedication our students, learning coaches, families and staff have put in the first two months we have been a school. You have shown grace, perseverance and the ability to work together. Thank you!

Family Engagement Organization (our version of a PTO)

The FEO is a volunteer-based organization that provides resources, programs, and support to FLEX Online students, teachers, and staff. We want to offer sincere thanks to those who were willing to take on leadership roles at our last meeting. The group talked about projects they would like to get started including:

  • FLEX Family Directory - this would provide families a way to connect with each other to build community

  • Holiday Sharing / Food Drive - helping our families in need during the holiday season with gift cards

  • Support for learning coaches - pairing new families with current learning coaches

  • Volunteering - https://flex.beaverton.k12.or.us/connect/volunteer

  • The next meeting will be Tuesday, December 1st at 7:00pm (all are welcome!)

    • Zoom Meeting ID: 264 807 4223

    • Passcode: Flexfeo

Progress Reports - Middle and High School

Secondary families, please check ParentVUE/StudentVUE to check your student’s progress to date. These marks are not final and will not show on student transcripts. These marks aren’t a judgement or punishment. They are a guidepost to help students know what they need to do moving forward to achieve their goals. The most important things students can do to be successful is to engage with their teacher and submit work. It is nearly impossible for students to be unsuccessful when they regularly turn in work and interact with their teacher.

  • A, B or C - The student has shown evidence of learning by communicating and submitting work and is making good progress.

  • D - The student has shown progress and is developing understanding. More evidence is needed to show mastery.

  • F or I (Incomplete) - We are here to help! You can only go up from here. The student has not provided enough (or any) evidence for the teacher to judge mastery. If this continues, the student will not earn credit in the course.

Friendly Attendance Reminder

Please take 5-10 minutes each day to log into Canvas and click the attendance button. If you are elementary, the button is found in your Language Arts course. If you are in middle or high school, please click the button in your A/B day classes (depending on day) and Advisory every Wednesday. This information is critical for state reporting. We appreciate your cooperation.

Tell Us Your Story!

We would love your help to tell the story of our school and the families that make our school community so special. We will use this information on our school website to help other students and families know more about our school. Use our online form to tell your story and even upload a photo if you have one!

If you already given feedback, thank you so much!

Thanksgiving Holiday- No School

There is no school November 25th through the 27th for the Thanksgiving holiday.

For anyone interested in an Indigenous or Native American perspective on Thanksgiving or recommended children’s books please check this blog post out.

Be sure to take time to relax, recharge or even Zoom with friends and family! It will take everyone’s efforts wearing masks, social distancing and following safety measures to prevent continued growth of cases in Oregon. The Center for Disease Control also has some great tips on safely celebrating Thanksgiving.

This can also be a great time for students to catch up on any outstanding work, study for an upcoming exam, get ahead, practice some Spanish or even spend some extra time on an Art project.

FLEX Semester Openings

Do you know someone who is interested in joining FLEX at semester break this year? We are accepting a small number of applications for openings at the semester break (February 5, 2021). Applications are due January 22nd at 4:00pm. Check our enrollment web page to learn more and access the application.

Stay in the Know

We use the SchoolMessenger notification system to send automated phone calls, emails and texts to parents, guardians, students and staff. These messages include return-to-school information, important messages and reminders, attendance notifications and inclement weather messages. Visit the BSD SchoolMessenger webpage for more information.

You can update your notification preferences via SchoolMessenger InfoCenter or by downloading the app. Check out this quick video on how to manage your account.

In Case You Missed It Items

After-School Clubs

We have several clubs running now including Pokemon, art, writing and more! These are a great way for students to connect and meet other students who share their interests. Students can ask their Homeroom or Advisory teacher to find out how to sign up. Information about our current clubs and when they meet on is our website.
