It inhabits small to large upper Coastal Plain and lower Piedmont rivers.
Why is it Endangered?
The Carolina Redhorse is endangered because it is very rare. In fact, scientists did not even discover it until 1995.
What is Being Done to Protect It?
The Carolina Redhorse is protected under the state Endangered Species Act. No Carolina Redhorse can be collected or killed without a permit from the NC Wildlife Resources Commission.
