The Southern Colonies

Virginia
B.) The Virginia colony made their money from trading tobacco for England.
C.)The Virginia colony started out as a corporate charter but eventually became a royal charter. Also established The House of Burgesses which was the first legislative assembly among the colonies. Their first meeting was on July 30, 1619,
D.) The population was very small in 1607 with approximately only 104 settlers. The population grew to around 700 settlers by 1619. The settlers came from Europe through a company called the Virginia Company.
E.) The Native group that lived in this area was the Powhatan Indians. The leader of this was Wahunsonacock but the English called him Powhatan. The Indians did have conflict with the colonist because on one occasion, Powhatan himself tried to kill John Smith but his daughter, Pocahontas, saved John Smith.
F.) The religion was Anglican among the Virginians. A pastor named Robert Hunt had the first Anglican Service in Jamestown on June 21, 1607.
Maryland
B.) They planned it being a wealthier location than Jamestown. They would have Tobacco as the main and cash crop of Maryland.
C.) The Maryland colony was a proprietor colony because of the land grant to Lord Baltimore. His plan was to be in charge of a an "absentee proprietor in a feudal relationship."
D.) The population was very small in 1640 with approximately only 583 settlers. The population grew to around 4504 settlers by around 1650. The settlers came from Europe from Ireland.
E.) The Indians Tribes that lived in the area of Maryland was mainly, the Nanticoke Tribe, Susquehanock Tribe and the Powhaton Tribe. There wasn't any major conflicts between these Indians and the settlers.
F.) The religion in the Maryland Colony was not one specific religion because of the Toleration Act of 1649. This stated that it was allowed for all Christians to live there.
Georgia
B.) They made money through rice as the cash crop.
C.) The Georgia colony was a royal charter.
D.) The population was very small because only a dozen of the prisoners came who were supposed to come.
E.) One of the Indians Tribes that lived in the area of Georgia were the Apalachee.
F.) The religion in the Georgia colony was mainly Anglican, even though no specific religion was required.
North Carolina
B.) They made money through Naval Stores. The main crops were tar and turpentine from the pine trees.
C.) The North Carolina colony was a proprietor colony because of the land grant from King Charles. Then the colony became royal in 1775.
D.) The population was very small in 1653 but later grew with the impact of slaves.
E.) The Indians Tribes that lived in the area of North Carolina was the Croatans and the Tuscarora.
F.) The religion in the North Carolina colony was mainly Anglican, even though no specific religion was required.
North and South Carolina were officially one colony until 1729.
South Carolina
B.) They made money through rice and indigo, thanks to Eliza Lucas for the Indigo.
C.) The South Carolina colony was a proprietor colony because of the land grant from King Charles. Then the colony became royal.
D.) The population was very small in 1663 but later grew with slaves coming over to work.
E.) One of the Indians Tribes that lived in the area of South Carolina were the Catawba.
F.) The religion in the South Carolina colony was mainly Anglican, even though no specific religion was required.
