Message from the Principal
We have a lot to be thankful for as a school. One thing I want to mention as our greatest appreciation is the early release Wednesdays. We recognize the huge commitment and potential for inconvenience to you and your family. The teachers are capitalizing on this time and deeply engaged in honing their craft.
As the weather gets colder outside please remember that students will be outside during recess and before school. Please do all you can to make sure they are coming with appropriate clothing! Before school, students are only allowed inside if they are with a parent until the time of the bell. We do ask if you choose to come inside to wait with your student(s) in the media center that you park in a designated parking spot.
Remember--next week will be a very short week. We have class on Monday and Tuesday, and no class on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Attendance Matters
In the Beaverton School District, we know that attendance matters. Research shows that chronically absent students (attending below 90%) can suffer academically. We understand that some absences are unavoidable. The important thing is to get your children to school as much as possible. Whether an absence is arranged ahead of time, or not, they can still have a negative impact on students because they represent lost learning time in class.
In the State of Oregon there are three types of excused absences. They include the illness of a student, the illness of an immediate family member, or an emergency (ORS 339.065). All other absences, even those that are prearranged, are noted as unexcused.
Attendance matters starting in Kindergarten. By middle and high school many attendance habits have been formed. Chronic absences are the leading warning sign that a student will drop out. Please do not schedule vacations during school time. Families should avoid activities that require your children to miss school. Try to line up vacations and doctor appointments with the school calendar in order to avoid missing valuable learning opportunities. Good attendance will help your children do well now and in the future.
Please refer to the following link for tips for families on building good attendance habits.
Inclement Weather
The District makes decisions based on the ability to operate school buses safely; the ability of parents and students to drive safely; and the ability of students to walk safely. The decision that is made will be for the entire District. (As always, parents may choose to make different decisions based on their particular location.)
For the latest inclement weather information:
- Log onto the District's website: http://www.beaverton.k12.or.us and a message banner will be posted on the top of the main page if there is a change in school operations.
