Parent-Teacher Conferences Invitation
Dear RHS Families
We hope you're doing well. We are excited to invite you to our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences, where we will have the opportunity to discuss your child's progress and achievements.
Date: October 12
Time: 5:00-8:00
Location: RHS, Main Gym
These conferences are a valuable opportunity for us to collaborate and ensure your student’s success. We look forward to sharing insights on their academic performance, classroom behavior, and any questions or concerns you may have.
In preparation for Parent/Teacher Conferences, counselors will send letters home to all 12th-grade families conveying total credits towards graduation and academic progress. Also, they will email all 9-12 grade families of students who need additional academic support to attain a passing grade. If you are the parent/caregiver or a 9th grader, our 9th Grade Success Team is invested in the following activities before the conferences. On October 11, advisory teachers will cover the following topics during 3.5 hours on PSAT day.
- GPA, grade tracking, and goal setting
- Self-advocacy - how to talk to teachers about your grades.
- One Word Mural - think about one word to help you focus this year.
- Community building activities.
On October 12, as you enter the building and join us for conferences, you will receive your student’s progress report containing the five courses they are registered to attend with their corresponding grade to this time. Then, as you enter the gym, teachers will be available to see you on a first-come, first-served basis. You will be able to confer with each teacher for 5 minutes. We will provide Spanish, Somali, and Pashto interpreters. I suggest you taste the culinary delights from the Essence of Renton Club, which will serve mini-churros, pumpkin bread, and chicken eggrolls with delicious cold and hot cider.
If you cannot attend in person or the teacher is absent, we can arrange a virtual video conference after regular classes. Please let us know your preference when scheduling. Your involvement in your student’s education is greatly appreciated, and we believe we can help them reach their full potential together. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Warmly,
Dr. Gia San Martin, RHS Principal
Tips for families to consider when preparing for and participating in parent-teacher conferences:
Prepare in Advance
- Review your child's schoolwork, assignments, and feedback or progress reports before the conference.
- Make a list of questions or topics you want to discuss with the teacher.
Listen Actively
- Give the teacher your full attention when they're speaking. Take notes if necessary. Share Information
- Provide the teacher with relevant information about your child's life outside of school that may impact their performance or behavior.
Ask Questions
- Don't hesitate to ask questions about your child's progress, strengths, areas for improvement, and any concerns you may have.
Discuss Strategies
- Collaborate with the teacher to develop strategies to help your child succeed in areas where they struggle.
Behavior and Social Development
- Inquire about your child's behavior and social interactions in the classroom. Discuss any concerns or challenges.
Homework Study Habits
- Talk about your child's homework routine, study habits, and how you can support their learning at home.
Plan for Follow-Up
- Agree on a plan for regular communication between you and the teacher through emails, progress reports, or future conferences.
Involve Your Child
- Depending on their age, involve your child in the discussion to empower them to take responsibility for their learning and behavior.
On Wednesday, October 11th , RHS 10th and 11th graders will be participating in the PSAT exam; 9th and 12th graders will report directly to their advisories while 10th grade Advisors and 10th graders will report to the Main Gym and 11 grade advisors and 11th graders will report to the Aux Gym. This year will be the first year that the PSAT will be taken digitally. As in the past, we will run on a PSAT altered schedule:
o Testing Window: 7:20am-11:25am
o Lunch: 11:25am-11:55am

ATTENTION 10th and 11th grade Families: Please ask your students to bring their chromebooks to school charged this next week. On Monday, we have planned to do a digital check on our chromebooks to make sure they are ready to take the PSAT on Wednesday, October 11th.
If your 11th grade student is in Running Start, remind them that they will be receiving an email in their Renton student email this week (not their gmail). The point of the email is for them to fill out a google form to let us know if they plan on taking the PSAT or not at RHS with us on 10/11/23.
As a reminder, in order to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship their senior year, Juniors must have taken the PSAT their junior year (11th grade).
All 10th and 11tth graders including Running Start students should've received an email on their Renton student address containing a link to a power point walking your students through how to check if their chromebook meets the requirements to be able to take the PSAT on Wednesday. Running start students also will receive a Google Form to fill out to let us know that they are taking the test: Presentation for PSAT Digital Check.pptx

Why get COVID vaccine? Aren’t we over COVID?
Besides reducing your risk of getting COVID, COVID vaccine reduces your risk of getting Post COVID Conditions (AKA Long COVID).
Post COVID Conditions occur in:
- 50-70% of hospitalized cases
- 10-30% non-hospitalized cases
- 10-12% of vaccinated cases
- Higher risk for older people
- Higher in women and likely in racial and ethnic disparities
- Cumulative risk of post-COVID conditions increases with total number of COVID infections
