Principal’s Message
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! This school year will hopefully be a more traditional year than we have had since the pandemic began. We return to full day in person learning for all students and could not be more thrilled! Per the Governor's Executive Order, all students, staff and visitors will be required to wear masks indoors regardless of vaccination status. We will also need to continue to follow COVID safety protocols such as self certifying each day using Crisis Go, maintaining three foot social distance, and washing/sanitizing hands frequently. Our first day of school is Wednesday, August 18th and we cannot wait to see all of our students in person! Please send school supplies with your child on the first day of school.
Red Oak believes very strongly in parental involvement in a child's education. You are your child's first teacher! We encourage you to participate in school-sponsored activities when possible. Our first school-sponsored event is our Back to School Kickoff/Meet and Greet on Tuesday, August 17th from 2:30 - 3:00 p.m. This is an opportunity to meet your child’s classroom teacher as well as our other Red Oak staff members. This event will be held outdoors. In addition, students are welcome to play on our playground. To avoid congestion and maintain safety protocols, please come at your designated time.

If you are new to Red Oak, another important event to make note of is our New Family Tours. This event is geared toward kindergarten families, first grade families and any other families who have not yet visited our school. It will take place between 4:00 - 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 12. It will be an opportunity to tour the school, meet your principal, and get answers to any questions you may have. Parents and students are welcome to attend. Please sign up for a 30 minute time slot here. Masks are required indoors.
During the school year you can expect ongoing two-way communication between home and school. Every Friday a school newsletter will be published and emailed directly to you. It is essential that you check your email regularly as this is the manner in which important information will be communicated. We will also post school newsletters on our school website at: https://www.nssd112.org/redoak . Emergency communication will be communicated via email and/or automated phone calls.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, please do not hesitate to reach out. Please know that we are here to help your child be successful in school. Feel free to contact me by phone at 224-765-3750 or send me an email at nbellini@nssd112.org. We look forward to working with you and your child this school year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Nicole Bellini

Class Lists
Class lists will not be posted on the school websites. Parents may check Infinite Campus on Friday, August 6th at 4:00 p.m. to find out who their child’s teacher will be for the 2020-2021 school year.
School Safety Procedures
At Red Oak we are committed to ensuring that we are providing a safe environment for all of our students and staff. While COVID-19 has presented us with some additional challenges in this area, we feel very good about the safeguards we have put in place. Here are some of the highlights:
All parents must verify that their child is symptom-free BEFORE they will be allowed to enter the building. See below for more information.
All students, staff and visitors will be required to wear a mask at all times when on school grounds (inside only). Students are required to wear masks on school buses as well.
We are encouraging social distancing at all times. Students will be sitting three feet apart in classrooms. Signage has been installed throughout the building to remind students about social distancing and arrows are in the halls for directionality.
Students will wash their hands every day as soon as they enter the classrooms. Hand sanitizer is available in every classroom for student and staff use.
All classrooms will be thoroughly cleaned by sanitation specialists each day.
Self Certification
What to Bring Each Day
Students should bring their iPad and a water bottle to school each day. All other materials will be available at school. Students will be permitted to eat a snack at school this year. Please send a snack with your child each day. Fruit or vegetables are the only snacks permitted due to food allergies.
Organic Life Breakfast and Lunch Program
As you know, Red Oak offers a hot breakfast and lunch program through Organic Life. Organic Life uses fresh ingredients to offer meals that are natural and free of artificial growth hormones and preservatives. Meals are available free of cost to all students. Breakfast is served every day beginning at 8:30 a.m. We encourage families to take advantage of this healthy breakfast and lunch option for their children.
Innovation Learning Before and After School Care Program at Red Oak
Childcare is available before and after school at Red Oak Elementary. Innovation Learning will offer this program everyday before and after school. Childcare will be available immediately before school starting at 6:00 a.m. and immediately after school until 6:00 p.m. Families may register for the program at: https://www.nssd112.org/InnovationLearning Please see the attached flyer.
District 112 Transportation
Arrival and Dismissal
Our school day begins at 8:44 a.m. and ends at 3:21 p.m. Students should plan on arriving at school as close to 8:44 a.m. as possible, but in no case before 8:30 a.m. because supervision is not provided until that time. Students who are participating in the breakfast program at Red Oak should arrive at 8:30 a.m. Supervisors will escort students into the building at 8:44 a.m. and instruction will begin at 8:50 a.m. Students arriving after 8:50 will be considered tardy. Please help to get your students to school on time.
Car riders can be dropped off/picked up in the Car Rider Loading Zone - which is between the crosswalk at the north end of the building and the school sign.
Students arriving early for an approved supervised activity should plan to arrive as close as possible to the beginning time of the meeting or activity, but not more than 5 minutes before. They should enter through the front door with their backpacks and go to the room assigned for their activity. Activity leaders are responsible for supervising these students until 8:44 a.m. when they will report to their classrooms. In the case of inclement weather, students will enter the building but not before 8:30 a.m.
At the end of the school day, buses will load at the south end of the building. Buses will travel down the left lane of Red Oak, past the car rider line. Please be cautious when waiting to drop off or pick up your child(ren). Please see the attached Arrival and Dismissal Procedures for more information.
Medical Forms
Just a reminder that all Kindergarten students and students who are new to Red Oak must bring in the following medical forms:
Recent physical exam with updated immunization record
Vision exam
Dental (not due until May).
You can turn these forms in at the district office or here at Red Oak between 8:30-3:30 Monday-Friday. Please call the school office when you arrive for instructions: (224) 765-3750.
