Week 9, S1: EMS Family Newsletter
The What-to-Knows at Estacada Middle School for Families
Week 9 at EMS: Nov1-Nov5
Career and College Readiness at EMS
Last week we began to implement Oregon CIS Jr. for all 7th and 8th grade students. Oregon CIS Jr. is an online career exploration learning platform. The Oregon CIS Jr. curriculum promotes decision making, goal-setting, and critical thinking, while developing self-awareness, exploration, research, and planning skills. Oregon CIS Jr. focuses on building the skills and goals that students need to transition to and succeed in high school. The program also offers students the opportunity to begin to think about their post-secondary educational and career goals.
Students will be engaging in Oregon CIS Jr. lessons in core classes. Mrs. Gundlach, our schools counselor, will be partnering with a different PLC content team every month to deliver the lessons. This month, Mrs. Gundlach partnered with the Social Studies team and presented a lesson on “Qualities for Success.” This lesson provided students with the opportunity to reflect on their own strengths, or “qualities for success,” while considering how these qualities can help them be successful. Below you will find a preview of the next three Oregon CIS Jr. lessons.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR FEEDBACK
The top-rated indicator: "My family is respected at this school."
The bottom two indicators: a) "I regularly receive feedback about how well my child is learning" and b) "I receive positive communication from the school about my child."
Although the bottom two indicators are the lowest-scoring, our schoolwide systems to inform families and provide positive communication have demonstrated growth in both indicators. We are looking forward to strengthening our practices to serve you (and satisfy your needs) more throughout the academic year.
