From Mr. Clemente
Dear Winter Park Band families,
Congratulations to the SOTW for their first gameday in full uniform Friday night! It was nice to have some great weather (finally!) and be able to get out on the field for halftime. Looking forward to drier days ahead and to getting all of Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road on the field!
Thank you as always to our amazing Band Booster parent volunteers for chaperoning on Friday evening!
Through conversations with Julie Capps and our vendor putting together the program, we have made the decision to extend the deadline for submitting Program Ads and Sponsorships one week. Ad Sales and Sponsorship Donations are now due this coming Friday, 9/16. This deadline will be final, and cannot be extended again. Please contact Julie Capps if you have any program fundraiser related questions.
Registrations for students and chaperones along with the initial deposit for the NYC Tour 2023 are due tomorrow - MONDAY, 9/12. See below in the NYC Tour section for instructions and links to required materials, which can also be found at http://www.winterparkhsband.com/new-york-tour-2023.html. Fundraising credit may be used for the initial deposit.
This Friday, the SOTW will take a full group photo for the program. Please put a keen eye on the itinerary as the call time will be earlier than normal to allow for time to take the photo.
Saturday, we will have 28 students perform their auditions for the Florida All-State 9/10 Concert Band, 11/12 Symphonic Band, and Jazz Ensemble at Ocoee HS. They have been preparing for these auditions for the last few months, and have put in a lot of hard work. Best of luck in the audition room and do your best!
Look out for emails this week about ordering Concert Uniform Accessories, an exciting new fundraiser happening at the end of the month, and the items bought back with the Spirit Wear order earlier in the year.
Let's make it a great week everyone!
Mr. Clemente

From the Band Booster President, Mrs. Dana Adkinson
Hi Band! Friday night was a lot of fun! You all did a great job and looked like you had a great time. Many thanks to our fabulous chaperones .. we couldn't do these Friday night outings without you all! And to Mr. Clemente and Mr. Smith .. Friday night performances show how much work you put into our students and the band program .. what a great group to be a part of! Thank you all so much!
A couple of thoughts and reminders from the Uniform Chair:
1. You all looked sharp in your first dress-out of the year!
2. All marching band students who attended the game on Friday were issued their ONE FREE PAIR OF GLOVES on Friday. Please be sure to bring those gloves and black socks as part of your marching uniforms this coming Friday and every game night. If students don't have their gloves or socks, they will be charged $5 for each item.
3. If students are having any issues with their uniform, please have them arrive about 15 minutes early this coming Friday, and the uniform squad can make some adjustments.
4. and last thing .. if you wash those white gloves (which would be a good idea!), make sure you air dry them or they will shrink!
If you missed Friday's fun, parents .. fear not .. we still have chaperone slots available throughout the football season .. please sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0a4fadab22aa8-football
Reach out to any of the board members with any other questions or concerns: (http://www.winterparkhsband.com/band-boosters.html) or directors.

Program Ads and Sponsorships Fundraiser - Now Due This Friday, 9/16
Hello WPHS Band Families!
***Raise Money Now to Offset your Fair Share Payments and NYC Trip Costs!***
The season for selling ads in the Winter Park High Band program is well underway. If you are not familiar with this program, the Winter Park Band Concert Program features pictures of the Band as well as information about the band’s instructor and members. The program is distributed free at all concerts throughout the school year and includes local business ads, student dedications and sponsorships purchased by local businesses and families.
With the band scheduled to take a group trip to New York City in June 2023, it is important you understand how purchasing or selling an ad in the band program can help you save money on that trip. Any ad sold by your student can help defray your financial obligations to Band, including payment for the NYC trip. Once payment for the ad is received, the student’s Band account will be credited with 60% of the ad revenue that he/she sells, depending on the Band’s printing cost.
Here's how selling just one ad can benefit you:
- Sell a full-page ad ($325) to your kid’s orthodontist? You’ll get an estimated $195 credit on your account that can then be used toward the cost of the NYC trip.
- Celebrate your Band Student with a ½ page student dedication? While the ad will cost you $175, you will then get a credit back of roughly $105 that can go back towards your payments to band. This is especially popular with Senior families, but the family of any student can put a shoutout into the program.
The three types of advertising available are:
- Business Ad: Connect your local business or a business you frequent with audiences attended WPHS band performances throughout the school year.
- Student Dedication: Celebrate your student’s participation in the WPHS band program with a ¼, ½ or full-page ad that can include multiple pictures.
- Sponsorship: Become a “Friend of Winter Park Band” with a monetary donation and recognition on the sponsorship list. This is a great option for family and friends who ask how they can support your student in band.
The deadline for selling or purchasing an ad is quickly approaching. So that the program can be printed in time for the first home concert, all ads must be purchased or sold by Friday, September 16, 2022. Forms for the ad program can be accessed on the WPHS Band website by clicking About>Band Boosters. All files are located under the section Program Ads and Sponsors 2022.
Have additional questions? Contact Julie Capps, Program Ads & Sponsors Coordinator at 704- 258-3306 or juliedcapps@aol.com.

Pride of the Wildcats - Winter Park Band Fleet Vehicle Support and Improvement
We are very proud of our Operations side of the Winter Park Band. We have a dedicated group of parents that take the Winter Park Band & Color Guard to all their events. However, without the use of the large tractor trailer that transports our equipment to and from each marching band event and the small trailer for color guard the task would be next to impossible.
Through the years, the operations group has made many changes to the trailers to improve the functionality for the Winter Park Band. Historically, all of the monies have been raised through private contributions of a select groups of parents and through the Alumni Foundation. Because of this the need of a full fundraiser event to deflect the cost of the band operations was never really until now.
In effort to maintain our large trailer’s top-notch condition, we are planning to do some MAJOR repairs and improvements to the trailer that is now in its 15th year of service for WPHS band. Additionally, we need to either replace (preferable) the small trailer or make it road worthy again.
Some of the items on our list of improvements are costly, including:
- Repairing some minor damage to larger trailer
- Repainting the lower section of the large trailer
- Rewrapping the upper section of the large trailer
- Replace wheel bearings on front axle
- Moving the back stairway to the back of the trailer
- Replacing or repairing the small trailer
- And other improvements to keep our kids and volunteers safe.
Since we are re-wrapping the large trailer, we will be selling sponsor spots on the larger trailer to defray the cost. There are 10 spots that are available for $1,000 each and the entire front of the trailer for $5,000. These opportunities are a great way to support the Winter Park Band and they are also tax deductible.
Please contact Keith Gavin at kgavin@sscands.com for further information on donations or to provide the goods or services to the improvements that are so desperately needed.
