What's Happening at BJHS?

Taking Care of Business

This month, BJHS kicked off a new after-school program called ICU. ICU is a research-based system that helps students who need extra time or help to get their work completed to the best of their ability. Through this program, any student is able to stay after school on certain days of the week to receive one-on-one or small group assistance in specific subject areas. Our goal at BJHS is to help every student succeed, and we are seeing GREAT things happening in ICU!

Learning in Action

Mrs. Kaufman's 8th grade science class took their learning to a whole new level when they were asked to create molecules using plastic colored balls. After being shown the chemical formula, teams of students used the balls to build the molecule with the correct number of atoms. The students were so engaged as they raced to be the first team to build their molecule correctly. Great job 8th graders!

Blast from the Past

Students and staff went all out for our 80s themed pep rally! We enjoyed great music from the BJHS band, as well as a fun skit and some dancing from our cheerleaders. 6th grade ran away with the spirit competition, taking the spirit stick for their roaring battle cry. BJHS football and volleyball teams were recognized as their peers cheered them on from the stands. Thank you to everyone who made our first pep rally of the year a success!

October Spotlights

Staff Shout-Out

This month's staff shout-out goes to 8th grade Social Studies teacher, Trey Cochran! Mr. Cochran shows no fear when it comes to implementing the latest technology to make history come alive for his eighth grade students. He readily assists in our after-school ICU program to ensure that all of his students demonstrate mastery on the 8th grade social studies TEKS. Mr. Cochran models a love of learning for his students, making him a tremendous asset to BJHS!

Mr. Cochran will be treated to his choice of lunch from Fausto's or Anita's, and he will get to display "Flash" the Super Cougar in his room all month. Thank you for all you do for our students, Mr. Cochran!
