A Grateful Heart by Jazmine Misola, Class of 2024
BEGIN EACH DAY WITH A GRATEFUL HEART
I give thanks to my God at every remembrance of you,
praying always with joy in my every prayer for all of you,
because of your partnership for the gospel from the first day until now.
And this is my prayer: that your love may increase ever more and more
in knowledge and every kind of perception, to discern what is of value,
so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ
for the glory and praise of God.
~From Saint Paul’s Letter to the Philippians, Ch. 1:1-5, 9-11
Dear Saint Clare School Families,
As our staff and students look forward to a much needed break, we can’t help but be grateful for the many blessings we have in our lives. Despite challenges, we continue to persevere, knowing that we have this community who will raise us up! I am grateful to you for your patience and for your support of our teachers and staff, who care so much about your children and their formation. With your partnership, the load becomes lighter.
Today, in celebration of Universal Children’s Day, we can’t help but be grateful for the children in our lives who teach us so many things about ourselves and our world. Children, naturally, are amazing at living in the present moment. They react to things, good or bad, in the moment. They react with wonder and awe, finding God in creation, better than most adults. They let us know when their needs are not being met, and they remind us that the world is simpler than adults often make it out to be. I am thankful for your children and for the opportunity to see the world with hope, with wonder, and with the lens of gratitude.
We are looking forward to welcoming VIPs to our campus on Wednesday. Thank you to those who responded to let us know who will be coming. It helps us plan accordingly. Mrs. Rizzo and her crew, as well as our teachers and students have been working hard at making the day a special one for all. We are honored to have Bishop Cantú, preside at Mass and spend a few moments with us.
FORMAL UNIFORM: It would be amazing if 100% of our students come to school in formal uniform. For the most part, most of our students have been coming to school in long pants (NOT sweatpants) and with a sweater, vest, or cardigan on the days we celebrate Mass. I’m very proud of them and of you for making this happen. Our uniform is a way for us to show pride in our school and when students all wear the formal uniform, it shows that we are united as Saint Clare School. Thank you for your help!
REPORT CARDS: Your teachers are very busy preparing the Student Report that reflects your child’s progress for the first trimester. Last week, we focused our grateful heart on second chances. I told the students that the second trimester is an opportunity to grow even more and to fail and try again. School is meant to be a safe place to do this, and our teachers are amazing at giving them chances to practice getting better every day! Mrs. Kogura is working closely with teachers to get report cards out to you before the Thanksgiving break. In addition, parents of students who have been selected as the first trimester’s Young Christian, along with middle schoolers who will be honored with the Academic Achievement and Academic Excellence awards, will receive an invitation to an Honors Reception on Tuesday, Nov. 29 before Morning Assembly. Families are welcome to enjoy each other’s company and light morning refreshments, prepared by our Hospitality Committee. Congratulations to all!
CHRISTMAS PROGRAM: We are beginning to practice songs the students will perform at the Christmas Program on Dec. 15. Your teachers will be sending you links and lyrics to help students practice at home. It will be another special experience as we have not had an in-person program since December 2019! Remember that school is dismissed at 12:30P on December 16. There will be no after-school care on this day so that we can gather with our CKZ staff to celebrate together. Please make arrangements to pick up students by 12:45 on this day.
THE ADVENT SEASON: The first Sunday of Advent is on November 27. This week, your youngest student will take home an Advent Calendar for your family. Anticipating the birth of our Savior is an exciting time. There are many resources available online to make an Advent wreath or a Jesse Tree together. More importantly, children need our guidance in really knowing the reason for the season of Advent. May we help them understand the longing we have in our hearts for the coming of Emmanuel, God with us.
TESTING KITS COMING YOUR WAY: Your children will be taking home testing kits to use as we prepare to return from Thanksgiving break. County Health recommends that students test the Sunday before and then again the Tuesday we are back at school. Of course, if a student is experiencing COVID symptoms, or has a fever, please keep them at home.

The Giving Tree
The Giving Tree helps families in need who may need help providing their own family gifts during the holiday season. Extend a heart of charity by taking an ornament from the Giving Tree in the church and bringing a wrapped gift with the ornament for those families and placing it under the tree. Gifts will be accepted until December 13th. Gift cards will also be accepted.
