A Weekly Look at Grant Elementary School & the Grant PTA
Week of November 5, 2019
A Message From Principal Grey
Dear Grant Community,
It feels so good to be back at school and see your students' smiling faces! We know that breaking the routine of school was challenging for many and we are easing back into things to make the transition as smooth as possible for all. On top of the challenge of breaking the routine, we know that the fires can be very triggering for many of our students given the last few years. One resource that I have found helpful in working with children after a traumatic event is Helping Kids Cope. I hope you find it useful, too.
In lieu of a Halloween parade this year, we will have a Halloween costume photo slide show at the morning assembly tomorrow! If you would like your student's photo in the slideshow, please send it to agrey@petk12.org by 7:15 am Wednesday morning.
Sincerely,
Ms. Grey

Second Grant TIDE Meeting Next Week
Please join us for our second meeting on Wednesday, November 13th from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm in the Grant Library. We will come together as a school community and discuss ideas on our school's approach to inclusivity, equity, and diversity. TIDE (Team for Inclusivity, Diversity, and Equity) groups are forming at each site to open up a dialogue about how we can ensure that each of our students, families and staff members feel welcome, acknowledged and safe on our campuses.
Here is a bit more information about TIDE from the committee's district-wide leadership:
After hearing stories of racism and bias from high school students in our hometown of Petaluma, a group of community members started a group called Team for Inclusivity, Diversity, and Equity (TIDE). TIDE is a community-led group exploring how to make our schools more safe, inclusive, and welcoming for all of our diverse TK-12 students, families, teachers, and administrators. It is a goal that all schools in Petaluma -- from preschool to high school -- have a TIDE chapter of their own. The citywide TIDE group is made up of representatives from each school and serves as a place of inspiration and collaboration for each school.
Grant Cares, Donation Drive Underway
The Grant Cares team is collecting gift cards in the office to help some of our Grant families that may find the upcoming holidays a financial struggle. To help ease the burden, they've placed a heart shaped box in the office for gift card donations. If you are in the position to help, they're looking for gift cards to Target, Chevron, Old Navy or Trader Joe's in small increments, like $20 to $25, so that they can spread your gifts out to different families. Thank you for your support.
Let's Get Crafty, 12/6
Join us to make holiday crafts as gifts for friends, family, or to keep for yourself! Visit three crafting stations while enjoying some snacks, treats, bubbly and holiday cheer with friends! Craft on!
Let’s Get Crafty is on December 6th, 7 - 10 pm.
*$65 per person, Space is limited. Sign-up binder in office.
