COUNSELOR CORNER
Are you noticing worry or anxiousness in your student?
Anxiety is considered to be the number one health problem in America. Everyone feels fear, worry, and apprehension from time to time, but when these feelings prevent a person from doing what he/she wants and/or needs to do, it makes it hard to be the best student they can be.
Wilma Jean the Worry Machine by Julia Cook
This fun and humorous book addresses the problem of anxiety in a way that relates to children of all ages. It offers creative strategies for parents and teachers to use that lessen the severity of anxiety. The goal of this book is to give children the tools needed to feel more in control of their anxiety.
Application Idea: Read this book with your child when you notice they are worrying about testing or preparing for a new school year. Apply some of the strategies introduced in the book to help ease your child’s anxiety.
