STAFF SPOTLIGHT

Ms. Angie Hogle is our staff member in the spotlight. Ms. Hogle has taught in Columbia since 1992. She taught Kindergarten for 17 years. Her first Kindergarten classroom was at Columbia High School. She has taught 2nd grade for the past 9 years. Ms. Hogle's favorite color is green...because she graduated from Michigan State. Her daughters Hillary (19), Kenzie (21) and Katie (24) also love Michigan State. Her favorite restaurants are Luceros & Steak's Eatery. She says that she loves all candy, but her favorite is Reese's pieces. Ms. Hogle is a teacher leader at CES. She leads our School Improvement process and is always looking for ways to make CES the best it can be. We thank Ms. Hogle for her dedication and absolute love for Columbia students!

COUNSELOR CORNER

Are you noticing worry or anxiousness in your student?

Anxiety is considered to be the number one health problem in America. Everyone feels fear, worry, and apprehension from time to time, but when these feelings prevent a person from doing what he/she wants and/or needs to do, it makes it hard to be the best student they can be.

Wilma Jean the Worry Machine by Julia Cook

This fun and humorous book addresses the problem of anxiety in a way that relates to children of all ages. It offers creative strategies for parents and teachers to use that lessen the severity of anxiety. The goal of this book is to give children the tools needed to feel more in control of their anxiety.

Application Idea: Read this book with your child when you notice they are worrying about testing or preparing for a new school year. Apply some of the strategies introduced in the book to help ease your child’s anxiety.
