August, 2022 Class of 2026/Transferring Students Edition

Welcome Class of 2026 & New Students

We are so happy and grateful to be welcoming you to Somerset Berkley Regional High School for the 2022-23 school year. It's a new day and a new year and we are eager to get going with our new school year! I urge you, even if you never have before, to get involved in all SBRHS has to offer. I also strongly encourage you to check your email for updates as the administration, teachers and staff utilize this on a regular basis for disseminating information out to our student body and their families. Please take the time to read through this newsletter as it contains some very important information about our upcoming year. We are still preparing, so please stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

On behalf of the faculty and staff, we are dedicated to helping our students achieve their goals and, perhaps, even create new goals that they didn't even know they had! We are here for you to achieve in your academics, but also care about you as individuals and people. If you need any assistance or guidance, please reach out to your teachers, counselors, or administrators--we are all here to help! Work hard and dream big! As some of you are already realizing, these four years go by very fast--make the most of them! We look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,

Technology Night--August 24, 2022--Save the Date

Students that are new to our district as members of the Class of 2026 OR have transferred into any other grade over the summer are invited to attend Tech Night with their families. Here, you will be able to pick up your Chromebooks as long as you have signed the district's Acceptable Use Policy. Families may also want to purchase Chromebook Insurance, which covers costs of repairs. Insurance is optional and is $100.00 ($25 per year). As we get closer to the 24th, we will be emailing electronic forms to complete the AUP and insurance information.

Tech Night will begin in the Performing Arts Center. Administrators, Guidance Counselors, Content Coordinators, the Athletic Director, Nurse and Special Education Content Coordinator are also available this night for questions. In addition, Big Buddies will be available for tours.

Technology Night Times

Students with last names A-L are invited to attend from 5:00-6:00 p.m.

Students with last names M-Z are invited to attend from 6:00-7:00 p.m.

We look forward to seeing you! Again, please be sure to have the Acceptable Use Policy read and signed before attending.

If you cannot attend, Chromebooks will be available for pick up on the first day of school. Again, the AUP must be signed before the Chromebook is given to the student.

First Day of School

The first day of school for all students will be Wednesday, August 31, 2022.

On Tuesday, September 6, 2022 there will be a half day of school (7:25-11:30 a.m.) for the Class of 2026 only. All other students will not have school. On this day, freshmen students will meet with their guidance counselors, teachers and other support staff to assist in the transition to the high school programming. This is a day when incoming students will be in the building as a class, have questions answered and assist students in preparing for their high school experience.

School Supplies

At the high school level, charged Chromebooks and checking email on a regular basis are the essential school supplies for day one! The first week of school, teachers will disseminate syllabi which will detail individual classroom expectations in terms of supplies. Most classes require some type of binder/folder/notebook and, of course, writing utensils. Again, more information will be forthcoming by teachers during the first week of school.

Bus Routes

Bus routes will be finalized when our administrative assistants return in a few weeks. It is important that students are prepared a few minutes early during the first week of school as bus routines get established.

Bus routes do not change dramatically from year to year. So, to get an idea of what bus route your child is on, please see the attached routes from the 2021-22 school year. When we finalize this year's routes, we will send a new correspondence.

Don't forget your summer reading!!

All students in grades 9-12 are required to complete their summer reading assignments. Students may select any fiction or non-fiction book of interest to them that exceeds 100 pages. The book chosen will be used for a graded response to literature pre-assessment prompt in September. Students are responsible for obtaining their own book. For more information, please click here.

There is still room in our ELA & Math Summer Academy Programs...
