Mar Vista Parent Newsletter
Week of April 5, 2021
Dear Families,
Happy Easter and first week of April! This week marks the return of our TK-1st grade students to campus and a preparation week for 2nd through 6th grade teachers who will be getting ready for their students' return next week. See classroom weekly planners for an updated schedule.
On Friday, March 26th, I sent out a video about our school's plan for arrival and dismissal, as well as the process for staying safe while on campus. Please find the links to the two resources here:
Important: Lanyards with student screening badges will be available at pick up on Monday at the distribution times. These badges are to be worn to and from school every day Tuesday-Friday.
Also, by now you should have received a letter with your child's in-person learning schedule. It would have stated Cohort 1 or 2 OR Cohort 1 & 2. If the latter, your child is able to attend in person on all four days, Tuesday through Friday. If you have any questions, please call us in the office at (831) 761-6177.
For more information about your child's daily schedule and curriculum, please contact his or her teacher. We are so excited to see those smiling faces back on campus and are looking forward to an amazing end of the school year!!
Thank you,
Stephanie Monroe, Principal

Mr. J's Academic Coordinator Update
Hi, Families.
First off, I have to say how excited I am to see students back in person this week!
If your child does not have a district Chromebook, it will be imperative that they have one as we begin state testing (3rd-6th). We do have extra Chromebooks in the office but I recommend you call in advance just to be sure.
We are due to begin the SBAC assessment on April 20th.
Thank you to everyone that has sent in pictures for the spirit days! This is one way we are trying to maintain connection and community, so it is appreciated. This week is “make something creative and share it”. Students can create anything creative, take a picture with it, and send in pictures to me to be featured in the Mar Vista News (and possibly the yearbook)!
Students will be continuing Unit 6 in our language arts curriculum, Benchmark, this week.

Autism Awareness Month
As we return from Spring Break this April, we celebrate and raise awareness for World Autism Month.
Autism Spectrum Disorders affects 1 in 54 children. PVUSD is dedicated to provide evidence-based practices and intervention to our students with autism.
April 2nd was World Autism Awareness Day. "Light It Up Blue" to recognize people with autism and those who love and support them. Join us in wearing blue on April 5th and throughout the month of April in solidarity and to spread kindness for those touched by autism.

From MV Alum Iman Moshari: Victory Veggies needs your help!
Many members of the Santa Cruz community have gone hungry due to the brutal-ongoing of the Covid-19 Pandemic; during all this the Second Harvest Food bank is experiencing record high demand throughout Santa Cruz county.
Victory Veggies receives fresh produce at a Covid-safe location on our set date and location every Friday from 5-7pm at Anna Jeans Cummings Park. The collection site is contactless and if you need help removing the items from your car we will gladly do it for you. The produce is then taken to a larger nonprofit that helps distribute the produce to the general public.
As for volunteering, we are in dire need of help -putting up fliers, taking fliers down, and helping VV grow so that we can continue helping the community. We already received 1322.5lbs of fresh produce as of February 2021, with your help we can grow that number.
For more information and to get in contact with us check out our site at tinyurl.com/victoryveggies or email/message us at victoryveggiessoquel.iman@gmail.com -IG @victoryveggiessoquel.
Only together can we continue helping and growing our community!

They purchased Zearn for us and I have to say it has been a HUGE support for my math program. I also appreciate the $400 classroom funds because I have been purchasing chapter book sets for my class. I also really appreciate Ashley continuing on being treasurer with her full time job. -Miss Risa
