A Crazy, Mixed-Up Week
Dear Staff,
How do you maintain a routine, celebrate the end of the year and focus on learning the next seven days with all of the different schedules we have planned? The trick will be to share the schedules with students each day so they know what is coming, not to celebrate too early, and have engaging activities embedded in solid lesson plans.
I may have shared before that one of my favorite children's novels is From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. It is the story of two suburban children who run away to the Metropolitan Museum of Art where they uncover a mystery surrounding an angel statue. This adventure leads the children to an old woman who has some secrets of her own. In many ways, although the adventure takes place without technology or cell phone, it is timeless in its themes.
This week, take some time to be reflective with your students, helping them see how they have grown this year through your teaching. Sign them up for the summer reading program, so they may take their own adventures this summer by discovering a book they will love.
We will Keep Calm and Carry On!
Have a great week!
Julie

Announcements and Reminders
- Please come to my office either in the the morning or during your prep to sign your evaluation . If you have questions, I am available to meet individually. Just set up a time.
- Please turn in your Brag Tag Winners by Friday, May 19th. We are running low on tags and we need to count to make sure we have enough to match your numbers. Your help with this is greatly appreciated!
- From Shonda--Friday, May 19 is the last day of Quarter 4. Grades are due in PowerSchool on Monday, May 22 NO LATER THAN 7 a.m.!!!! I will run report cards FIRST THING Monday morning and have them in your mailboxes for review by lunch time. They will NEED TO BE REVIEWED IMMEDIATELY and let me know if reprints are needed by mid afternoon Monday. I will have reprint cards turned around as quickly as possible.
- Give the Math Common Assessment--May 15-19 Please be reminded that our math common assessment for elementary quarter 4 should be titled CAS2 in PowerSchool; we MUST use this title. All teachers must give the common assessment. Remember total points should be used instead of percentages. If you have any questions about this, please let me know.
- Specials will run through May 22nd. We will not have specials the last day of school. See the Step-up and Brag Tag schedule below.
- Once I have your 3rd grade (math and ELA), 4th grade (ELA) and 5th grade (ELA) lists, I will send out letters in early June letting parents know students will be in more rigorous classrooms receiving service, but not formally identified. Hopefully, this added layer of communication will help misconceptions about those students who are not formally identified but in our honors classes. As these letters go out, I will send copies to teachers so you will know what parents are receiving.
- As we prepare for the summer renovation of the hallways and lockers, we must take everything down and clean out all lockers before the last day of school.
Please share with students that the reward for completing the Math Facts Challenges in your grade level this year will be an "out of this world" experience! A dome planetarium will be in our gymnasium on May 17th to allow every student who has met the challenges to attend a 1/2 hour to 45 minute program, depending on the number of students. As we get closer, I will ask for an estimated number to begin creating a grade-level schedule for the experience. This "reward" goes along well with our math facts initiative since many are trying out the Rocket Math program this year.
Letter to new class-Putting this on your radar that you will write a letter to your new students next year introducing yourself to them. You should have your letter last year that you can tweak. Please share these with your new teammates. Again, you can give these to us in envelopes. We can put labels on and mail. Thanks.
Last day of school hours are 8:00-11:30.
End of Year Paperwork due to the box behind Amy's desk before you leave on the 24th. Thank you!
