Twister News
September 2023
We will send out our Twister News at the beginning of each month. Please read through them to keep informed of Important Dates and information.
STUDENT SAFETY
Parents and Families,
Student Safety is our biggest priority here at Loma Heights. We need your help to ensure that all students are safe while at school.
Morning Drop Off
- Drop of is at 7:30am. No staff is on duty prior to that. Students are getting to school too early. Please do not allow students to exit your vehicle or walk to school early.
- Do not allow students to walk in the parking lot alone. If you are parking during drop off please walk with your child to the cross walk.
Afternoon Pick Up
- Right Turn exiting Loma Heights. Beginning September 11th all cars will be directed to turn right on Deborah to help with keeping pick up lane moving smooth. We have seen some unsafe situations and we want to keep all parents, students and staff safe.
- If your child can not buckle themselves please park and pick them up. Staff will no longer be allowed to buckle students.
Early Pick Up
- Park in the parking lot and walk up to the front door if you are needing to pick your student up early.
- Students will not be called out after 2:00pm.
Attendance for Success
This month we will begin monthly incentives for students who are at school and on time everyday. Students with 100% attendance and zero tardies will be placed on our perfect attendance board and can select a prize of their choice. These students will also be entered into a drawing that will take place on December 15th for a bigger prize.
Students learn best when attendance is consistent so please ensure your child is at school and on time. Students are considered tardy after 8:15am.
GRADUATE PROFILE
What is a graduate profile?
The Las Cruces Public Schools developed a graduate profile that defines the desired academic, cognitive, personal, and interpersonal traits and qualities that every student should possess upon graduation. The development of this profile allows LCPS to concentrate the efforts of students and the school community on a set of essential educational objectives and standards that aims to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and attributes necessary to succeed in their personal and professional lives.. These objectives and standards promote the growth of students' skills, enabling their success both during their academic journey and after graduation. Additionally, the graduate profile establishes a transformative framework that supports individuals, systems, structures, and processes across the entire district.
How was the LCPS Graduate Profile developed?
During the 2021-22 academic year, a comprehensive survey was distributed to gather input from various LCPS stakeholders, including parents, teachers, administrators, alumni, community members, and high school students. The aim was to identify the desired academic, cognitive, personal, and interpersonal qualities that all LCPS students should possess upon graduating. Following the analysis of survey data, focus groups were organized involving diverse stakeholders to gather additional insights. Based on these data points, the competencies and attributes were determined.
The LCPS Graduate Profile logo was designed by an LCPS student!
Samantha Simmons from Mayfield High School turned in her original artwork and then worked with NMCO Studio, a local digital design studio, to refine and finalize her design. To learn more about Samantha’s design and our new LCPS Graduate Profile, head over to

Supporting the Implementation of the Graduate Profile
Supporting the rollout of a graduate profile can be as easy as posting the logo, posters, and images around the school and in classrooms. Every month we will focus on 1 of the 9 competencies. We look forward to seeing all the ways students engage with the LCPS Graduate Profile. Consider highlighting the competency/KPIs in your newsletters, class discussion, parent nights, and adding the logo to your e-mail signature.
