Panther Post
May 28th - June 1st
Hello Lopez Families,
We have had a great week! Orchestra, band, choir and drama all had performances and they were spectacular! I loved the huge turnout of parents that came to see the kids perform. We were also awarded a trophy for theater and debate for dominating the field this year. (pictured below).
This coming week should be fun as we finish out a successful year. Please check out the calendar of events. Invitations to the student awards ceremony are going out for those students receiving an award. Please realize that not all students are receiving an award though.
As you know, Lopez is the only school in Texas that has earned the Leader In Me Lighthouse status. This was due to hard work and commitment to giving students something above and beyond just the curriculum. As important as academics are, we believe in developing the whole child through athletics and fine arts as well. The Leader In Me works on character and leadership development that will endure throughout the students' lives. As part of this process, we would like you to take the quick survey below so we can make adjustments and improvements to the process.
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wernli

Leader In Me Parent Survey
Parents/Guardians
Celebration! Lopez MS is the 1st Leader in Me Lighthouse Middle School in Texas! Leader in Me teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader. Our school will be conducting surveys to learn more about key areas of strength and areas of needed growth in our school. The data from these surveys will also help us track the impacts of The Leader in Me process and implement key practices more fully. In order for us to have a holistic picture of what is going on in our school we are asking all full-time staff members, parents/guardians, and students to participate. Please fill out survey by May 31st.
If you decide participate, you will be asked to complete a survey (without sharing your name or other identifying information) that will be available through a web link . The survey is completely voluntary, but we do hope to get feedback from one member of every household. The parent/guardian survey takes about 12 minutes to complete and will ask questions about your child and about his/her experience in our school. If you have more than one child attending the school, you will be asked to think about the oldest child’s experiences as you answer questions related to their growth.

PICK UP ALL MEDICATIONS
All student medications should be picked up by June 1. This includes all inhalers, Epipens, bottles of Advil, Tylenol, Benadryl, keychain medications, and any over the counter drugs. These medicines will be disposed of if not picked up, as the school won’t be air-conditioned when closed over the summer. If you cannot pick up medication by June 1, please call the school nurse at 210-356-5003 to make other arrangements.
Update Physician Orders
Orders for medications, including inhalers, Epipens, insulin, and all oral medications, should be updated over the summer. Medication forms are being mailed out to all students who currently have medicine in the clinic. Please schedule appointments over the summer so that you will not run out of time to have physicians to complete these medication requests. These forms are also available for downloading at http://www.neisd.net.
From the Library
We currently have 130 outstanding books due to the library. Please return any books you have or make arrangements to pay the amount due.

Box Tops
Dear Lopez Families,
We are quickly nearing the end of the 2016-2017 school year! As we ready ourselves for summer break, it’s a great time to start an envelope in order to collect those Box Tops over the summer!! My name is Melanie Striffler and I’m excited to once again be our school’s Box Tops for Education™ Coordinator for next year.
Clipping Box Tops is an easy way to help earn cash for our school. Each one is worth 10¢ for our school! Just look for the pink Box Tops on hundreds of products. All you have to do is clip them and send them to school.
Last school year, we earned $200 for our school from Box Tops, and used the money to clean and refurbish our mascot, Prowler. This next school year, our goal is to earn $500.
For more information on Box Tops, including a list of participating products, go to BTFE.com. Be sure to sign up as a member (it’s free!) so you can check out our school’s earnings details and get access to coupons and bonus offers.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m here to help make our school’s Box Tops for Education™ program a huge success this year.
Thanks for your help!
