Superintendent's Message: Looking Ahead

As I reflect on this school year and I work with stakeholders to prepare for the next, I grow increasingly optimistic. Our community appears to be breathing a little easier as the crisis of pandemic seems further behind us. Teacher enthusiasm is building around a focused 720 plan at Jimtown High School and changes across the district, all of which is driven by our strategic plan. As a school leader and a parent in Baugo, I am committed to continuous improvement; responding to the social media influence on children, addressing the increasing use of vaping devices among teens, ensuring rigor in our classrooms, and better preparing our children for careers and college. As we plan to retreat into summer and prepare for next year, let's commit to using our tools, time, and talents to engage in our schools in new and meaningful ways for our children; because that's what Jimmies do.

Baugo Community Schools Expand Open Enrollment

Spread the word, students wishing to join the Jimtown Community have one more way to do so. Open enrollment has expanded to include 10th grade for the 2022-2023 academic school year. The open enrollment process can be found on our webpage at www.baugo.org and clicking on enrollment. Parents interested in open enrollment should contact Madeline at our central office for details at (574) 293-8583.

Positive Behavior Intervention Supports - PBIS

Baugo Community Schools is thrilled to reboot PBIS programming throughout our schools. We are focused on ensuring consistent, predictable, equitable, and safe environments in each of our buildings. PBIS is not new to our buildings but like all good work, retraining and reinvestment are critical to program fidelity and improved outcomes. We are excited about the future of PBIS in our schools!

IHSAA Baseball Sectional #21 to be Hosted at Beautiful Booster Field

Big picture

The IHSAA Baseball sectional time is an exciting time for any young man that has played the sport in high school. Win and you advance; perhaps all the way to Victory Field in Indianapolis. Lose and you are done for the year.

This year, the Jimtown faithful will not have to travel very far. The 3A baseball sectional will be held right here at beautiful Booster Field. May 25, 2022 is when the action gets started and the championship game will be played on Memorial Day, May 30th at Noon.

Come on out and cheer on the Boys of Baugo. Have a hotdog and some popcorn. It is going to be an exciting tournament.

Support School Sporting Officials

Whether it’s baseball, softball, tennis, golf, or track & field, every spring sport is made possible by our dedicated high school officials. IHSAA reports that spectator abuses have contributed to the increasingly difficult task of securing individuals to officiate high school sports. Officiating is a labor of love and we appreciate those who choose to do this important work. Please support those individuals who choose to officiate high school sports.

Bullying Reporting

Every student has a right to come to school and feel safe. Bullying behavior is the greatest threat to feeling safe in schools today. It takes all of us to ensure students learn to treat each other with respect and dignity. When bullying occurs we must react and quickly. Reporting bullying has never been easier in Baugo Community Schools. Find bullying reporting forms on our webpage at www.baugo.org and then clicking on the Bullying Reporting Button on the informational ribbon.

School Lunch Changes

For the upcoming school year, meals will no longer be “free” to all students. Breakfast and lunch meals will return to the three-tiered system: free, reduced, or paid. If needed, free and reduced applications will be available after July 20th. Applications must be renewed at the start of every school year. Also, deposits may be made into your child’s lunch account anytime throughout the summer at www.mymealtime.com. Any questions can be emailed to foodservice@baugo.org.

Baugo Transportation

The school board has approved Jay Squibb as our Transportation Coordinator. Jay is a Jimmie who is passionate about students and our community. We are excited to have Jay on the team starting in June.

A special thanks to our drivers for their efforts this school year. In a time filled with driver shortages and other uncertainties our drivers refused to let that affect our students. They came together to ensure our Jimmies had access to transportation every day. Jimtown drivers are the best in the business.

Interested in joining our team? Baugo needs drivers and will train. Please inquire on our website for more information. Transportation Services - Baugo Community Schools

Student Council Hosts Spring Fling at JJHS

Jimtown Junior High brought back some fun at The Spring Fling Dance. The student council orchestrated the event by holding a spring fundraiser, took part in ticket sales and planned a spirit week culminating with the dance at the end of the week. The music helped to bring the students and staff together to celebrate our PBIS school wide reward. A great time was had by all and it was a very positive way to wrap up our testing weeks and the close of a school year.

Finding Time to Play at JIS

Improving outdoor facilities is always important. In conjunction with interior renovations going on at the school, Jimtown Intermediate gets a much needed upgrade to playground equipment. JIS can continue to work hard and play hard.

The Jimtown Intermediate Green Team Leads the Way

JIS is proud to report the latest work of our Green Team. They took a break from testing in April and wandered the campus of Baugo Community Schools!! These kiddos worked in shifts with supervision from our amazing staff and cleaned up our campus. Our Green Team works tirelessly to lead our recycling initiatives at JIS. So proud of all the work they put in to do their part for our environment!! Campus never looked better!!

Jimtown Elementary School

The children of JES thrive through hands-on, student centered learning, interactive experiences. The little things matter like popsicle day, field trips to the zoo and Earth Day experiences. So many reasons to be excited by Baugo Community Schools.
