Mrs. Turley's Tidbits
Week of 5/15 - 5/19
Middle of May...a Magnificent Time of Year!
Fundations:
We continued studying our concepts in Unit 15 this week! We're looking at the ou, oo, ue, and ew sounds. We're also looking for tricks to spell our trick words: January, February, July, December, enough, and special!
Literacy:
This week, we finished our trip to the seven continents with a visit to Australia and Antarctica. Then we began our Weather Unit. We learned about thunderstorms, the water cycle, and the different types of clouds. They even made Lightning Safety Posters to hang in the school hallways to educate Meadowview students and staff about what to do if there's lightning. We just may have future meteorologists among us!
Math:
We were still learning and studying arrays this week. We even found arrays in our "real world"! Bookshelves, our cubby bins, etc. all are arrays! They were so excited to discover arrays all around them. Have they noticed any at home, in the car????
Writing Workshop:
We've used some of our Writing Workshop time to respond to our reading. We've been doing some "close read" work, highlighting, and then summarizing. However, we haven't put away our debate skills just yet. We still are using persuasive writing and we will have our writing assessment next Tuesday.
Frogs in our Room:
Our tadpoles are doing great! We still have FOUR so that in itself is success! We just wish we would see some hind legs! Mrs. Archilla has an actual frog! Maybe one of ours will develop quickly enough for us to see that before we let them go.
Ana enjoyed my desk for her "Sit Anywhere" Pass!
Ana had another "Sit Anywhere" pass and so did Sofia so they sat together at the teacher's desk.
Treasure Drawer prizes...good choice, ladies!
