Holocaust Presentation & Survivor Speak to 9th Grade - A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Peter Stern for joining us Thursday to share his personal and family experiences during the Holocaust. His presentation was extremely powerful and our students were a wonderful audience as they were engaged and offered excellent questions and insights during the discussion portion. While this was not a "Faces of Holicong" presentation it hit the same nerve as Mr. Stern's personal stories, pictures and artifacts bring to life what the students are learning in 9th grade (students read the novel Night in English class and World War 2 & the Holocaust are part of the Social Studies curriculum). A special shout out to Mrs. Trammell for partnering with the Holocaust Awareness Museum and Education Center for coordinating to make this happen. We did have the opportunity to talk afterward with Mr. Stern and Mr. Feldman (President of the Museum) and they shared that Mr. Stern is the only survivor that with the organization that does these presentations in person (a few others do it through stream). The reality is that based on when this occurred there may not be many more opportunities for our students to have this experience first-hand with a survivor - we mention this to show its importance and again applaud our students for the seriousness and gravity in which they showed. We hope this was a discussion with parents and guardians at home but if not - please ask their thoughts as we hope it will encourage a conversation with the entire family.
February Parent Council - Thank you to Mr. Glaser, Mr. Rittenhouse, Mrs. Wentz and the parents for joining us (and to Mrs. Li who we "called on" without her hand raised). The video recording of the presentation & the powerpoint are posted on our Parent Council website - Parent Resources / Parent Council 2022-2023 (cbsd.org)

Wrestling Team Trip - Thank you to Mr. Rittenhouse and Coach Zappa for coordinating the visit for CB wrestlers (not just Holicong) to visit the Penn University wrestling team on Friday evening for a home match. The UPENN team spent a lot of time with our students and what made this extra special was the fact it was coordinated with Holicong alumni Meredith Sipple who is currently working at the Penn athletic department.
Program Planning - We are now in full swing for all 3 grades for our Program Planning process. All of our resources posted on the Student Services Program Planning website. Thank you to Mrs. Louderback, Mrs. Pierangeli, and Mr. Striano for their work and communication!
Save the Music - Thank you to all of our student and staff performers for an amazing concert this weekend! All three shows were outstanding and had a unique flavor and words don't do it justice. We are happy to host this event at Holicong and thank you to our local and CB community for supporting this event and the Save the Music initiative - we will share our final donation to the Philadelphia School District as soon as it comes in!
School Cancellations & Communication - Following up on the district communication that there are many ways to get information - Information / School Closing/Inclement Weather (cbsd.org) and for those of you that have not signed up for the mobile app - Technology & Innovation / CBSD Mobile App - that you do this as these alerts and our Holicong updates go straight to your phone!
SAFE2SAY & SAP (Student Assistant Program) - Students received an overview of these resources in…resource class. We have posted the links directly to both of these resources on the Holicong homepage on the right side under School Links - Holicong MS / Homepage (cbsd.org).
Holicong in Pictures!
We are going to keep this up for one more week! Thanks to Mr. Maigur and his students for highlighting our work at Holicong! Mr. Murray created the following video for the district Classroom in Focus series. Students are studying World War 2 and using creative writing and other ways to analyze, understand and make connections! Please enjoy!
